The Production Technologist (Operator) works on a shift team of 10-12 other Production Technologists. There are four shift teams. The Production Technologist reports directly to one of four Shift Supervisors. The Shift Supervisors report directly to the Production Supervisor. 

Job dimensions

The Production Technologist has primary responsibility for the safe and on target operation of an area of the plant. The plant is divided into 10-12 job areas that cover both outside operations and inside control system operations. The Production Technologist will be expected to train and qualify on multiple job areas and work one of these job areas during each shift worked.

Key Activities

The following are the key activities and responsibilities of the Production Technologist role:

  • [40-60%] Maintains HSEQ compliance as the top priority.
    • Follows all AIMS HSEQ policies & practices (ISO 9001, 14001, & 18001). This includes compliance with environmental regulations, completing safe work permits (Lock Out/Tag Out), on time completion of Compliance Tasks assigned via Task List, entering Impact incident/near miss reports, documenting Logbook stamps for HON/SSMP, Title V, etc.
    • Completes all training assignments on time.
    • Produces products that meet or exceed the specifications and/or expectations of our customers.
    • Actively participates on plant teams such as PSE Reduction, Site Safety/BBS Team, Wellness, PHA’s, etc.
    • Actively participates in daily and monthly safety meetings.
  • [40-60%] Operates and monitors the plant to deliver planned production.
    • Follows operating discipline principles, procedures, and practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of the equipment.
    • Operates and field checks process equipment. Monitors process conditions, equipment, and control systems.
    • Performs assigned tasks per Task List (e.g. field checks, equipment preparation for maintenance repair, sample collection, housekeeping, etc.).
    • Ensures operational activities and process performance are aligned with plant/business goals.
    • Supports plant improvement initiatives.
    • Uses process knowledge and skills and has personal initiative to make improvements in plant performance and operating discipline.
    • Uses troubleshooting skills to resolve process-related deviations and problems.
    • Completes small repairs (small leaks, replace valves, steam traps, etc.) and initiates repair work requests as needed.
    • Uses and/or develops computer skills and participates in procedure writing/verification and other Operating Discipline Management System activities like SAP, work orders, etc.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Context and environment

A Production Technologist…

  • Works a 12 hour rotating shift schedule (Dupont)
  • Works scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • Has a physically demanding job that includes: working in the outdoor elements, lifting up to 55lbs, bending, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, wearing respiratory protection, working at elevations requiring fall protection
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc(e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
  • Understands and Supports the Clear Lake Facility Acrylic Monomers HSE2Q Commitment.

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • Process Technology degree or other related college or vocational training is preferred.
  • Previous experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Commitment to Housekeeping:  Maintains work area and perimeter to a high standard of housekeeping.  Housekeeping is seen as a part of each job and the job is not considered complete until housekeeping is finished.
