Principal Engineer Job

JOB DIMENSIONS
General purpose: work with interdisciplinary professionals to identify and implement solutions augmenting SHE (safety, health and environmental), process safety management, quality, cost control, mechanical integrity, process control, and product innovation. Focus should be given to bringing projects to a successful outcome while being on time, on budget, and holding to the highest engineering, safety, and regulatory standards.
ACTIVITIES:
- Lead the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of equipment for business unit facilities.
- Develop plans to upgrade electrical infrastructure across business unit North America plants.
- Develop and maintain contractor and vendor relationships and contracts related to engineering projects, to maximize productivity and project output, while balancing cost at all North American locations.
- Collaborate with business leaders in our new product introduction process to evaluate and assist in prioritizing growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with Research and Development and Operations Leadership to conduct plant trials and scale-ups on new product opportunities.
- Collaborate with other professionals to develop and implement a PSM program including Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-Startup Safety Review, Mechanical Integrity, Management of Change, Incident Investigation, and Compliance Audits.
- Develop and manage project implementation schedules to ensure that they meet or exceed company and customer expectations, while maximizing the utilization of plant equipment and personnel across the North American plant network.
- Collaborate with other professionals in developing and implementing a Mechanical Integrity Program in accordance with OSHA PSM, Arkema standards and generally accepted good engineering practices – Tank, critical pipelines, over pressure devices, civil and structural inspections, and corrective actions.
- Responsible for developing operating procedures and training for implemented projects.
- Upgrade existing processes and control systems.
- Manage and track spending to ensure projects are done on budget and on time.
- Lead and optimize process scale-ups while applying best engineering practices.
- Support driving to a zero-injury work culture.
- Design and implement all projects in accordance with plant, local, and federal regulatory and safety standards.
- Support and maintain the development of engineering and construction standards.
- Share engineering experience with less knowledgeable engineers to develop skill levels.
- Domestic travel up to 10%, as required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Extremely organized, self-directed, ability to multi-task and document practices on a routine basis as well as interface and communicate effectively with all departments in a manufacturing setting, required
- Electrical and controls knowledge is a plus
- Experience with chemical, mechanical, and electrical systems in a manufacturing environment including piping, fluid mechanics, pump mechanics, process controls and design, required
- Experience with Mechanical Integrity Program (tanks, over-pressure devices, pressure vessels, and piping systems), preferred
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, required, Chemical Engineering degree strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in process manufacturing (chemical preferred) and 3+ years of experience project engineering experience, required.
- Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) policies and practices, preferred.
