Annual Salary Range $90,000 - 105,000 (pending experience)

The Production Engineer is a technical resource for production personnel, applying technical skills within production, optimize plant operations, resolves plant problems and enables safe and efficient production of low cost, quality products. This role is to provide a technical resource to assist work teams on daily operations and process performance to run a low cost, on specification, reliable, optimized operation, thereby maximizing value to the business in a safe environmentally friendly manner. 

Activities

  • Understands all applicable process, equipment and control technologies.  
  • Works with Technical experts and plant personnel to optimize operations to meet Business and plant goals in Health, Environmental, Safety & Security, Production, Cost, Quality, Energy, Reliability).
  • Participates in advanced trouble shooting and coaches others to learn these skills. Ensures findings are documented in Plant operating discipline for future usage.
  • Implements best practices in order to optimize operations. Ensures the most effective technology is understood and utilized.  
  • Understands and applies skills and knowledge in Statistical Process Control (SPC) technology, to maximize plant asset utilization and produce low cost, quality products.  
  • Works with Technical experts and Operating Technicians to initiate changes to plant operating procedures to ensure they are valid and up to date.  
  • Networks with other engineers on site and within the global business to leverage knowledge on plant operations.  
  • As required communicate technical information and issues to plant personnel, Technology or Expertise centers.
  • Provides high level leadership and direction in the day to day decision making for the operating area of responsibility.
  • Implements process improvements in support of reduction of variation, capacity and yield improvement.  
  • Conducts and participates in root cause analysis, FMEA, etc. as required.
  • Be the plant Asset Utilization Focal Point.  Drive rate changes and optimize profiles to meet production goals while increasing OEE.  Maintain the asset utilization database by entering production data into it to calculate OEE.
  • Provides technical support to projects
  • Responds to plant upsets as needed
  • Adheres strongly to the management of change process to ensure that reviews are completed thoroughly, risks are adequately assessed, and personnel are properly trained prior to implementing changes in the production facility.  

Context and Environment

  • A fast-paced environment where you are involved in a wide variety of functions and activities.
  • Use of computer software, both PC based and enterprise system, combined with frequent interpersonal communication.  
  • Most of the time will be spent in the plant supporting operations. 

Accountabilities

  • Troubleshoot and solve plant problems with robust solutions.  
  • Support plant operations as a technical resource.
  • Use data to make decisions and suggest both long- and short-term improvements. 

Qualifications / Experience Required 

  • B.S. degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, chemistry or other science discipline. 
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred but not mandatory
  • Demonstrate and validate expertise of both the technology and the continuous improvement process, including:
  • Fundamental principles (mass balance, energy balance, process parameters, governing equations)  
  • Plant unit knowledge (tracing lines, equipment, process control technology)  
  • Technology and process safety knowledge  
  • Knowledge of key continuous improvement systems (Six Sigma, LEAN)
