JOB DIMENSIONS
This job performs a wide variety of electrical work per the National Electric Code including maintaining and improving the electrical and control systems throughout the facility: The Plant Electrician supports the maintenance and engineering functions to repair existing equipment and design and implementation of new installations. The Plant Electrician has the communication skills to interact with the manufacturing operation to determine the needs and the requirements and has the capacity to solve complex problems and deliver results in a timely and safe fashion.
ACTIVITIES (tasks, resource, outcome)
- Solve complex electrical problems
- Work with Engineering to design & implement solutions to improve a variety of manufacturing & development equipment.
- Maintain/support a variety of electrical, instrument and mechanical equipment from 24VDC to 480VAC 3-Phase power.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC circuits, motor control and control circuitry, 480/208 voltage power distribution systems, electrical switch-gear equipment, electrical power generation equipment, phased and DC electric motors, heating, ventilation, and cooling systems, electrical lighting systems, AC variable speed drives, Un-interruptible Power Supply systems, fire detection systems, LEL monitoring equipment, Programmable Logic Controllers
- Respond to emergency work requests to troubleshoot and repair electrical & mechanical equipment issues, ranging from power & mechanical equipment to instrument and control equipment.
- Perform periodic preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment and on instruments and controls, while also performing tasks such as but not limited to changing oil, filters, belts and a variety of other replaceable parts.
- Assemble, install and commission any new electrical, instrumentation or mechanical equipment as a result of a repair or a capital project. Ensure proper documentation, PMs, calibration methods, and procedures of this new equipment, have been established and implemented.
- Assist in developing and improving internal standards regarding electrical/mechanical installation, maintenance, and safety.
- Assist in teaching other internal personnel on electrical and mechanical standards and skillset.
- Maintain necessary logs, check sheets and other documentation with timely and accurate information on all equipment.
- Communicate to all affected people any dangerous, unsatisfactory, or inoperative conditions affecting any in-use equipment
- Apply for Town of Middleton electrical permits as required
- Perform other related duties as required or directed.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
- Fast paced, safety-focused environment where you are involved in a wide variety of functions and activities.
- Participate in activities within the plant and occasionally outside the plant
- Heavy use of computer software, both PC based and enterprise system, combined with frequent interpersonal communication
- Expectation is that a good portion of time will be spent in the field, minimal shop time
ACCOUNTABILITIES (purpose)
- Responsible for performing highly diversified electrical and instrumentation duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety policies and predictive/preventive maintenance processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Certified Journeyman or Master Electrician (MA) and maintain annual requirements.
- 5 years minimum as licensed electrician
- Complete understanding of National Electric Code (NFPA 70 and 70E) and familiar with all state and local electrical codes
- Be aware of unique requirements of a PSM-designated facility (Process Safety Management - OSHA). Familiar with Class 1 Division 1 & 2 electrical classification requirements.
- Familiar with current Arc Flash regulations.
- Familiar with Lockout/Tagout requirements and can work on energized equipment.
- Has a working knowledge of process instrumentation, process control, motor control circuits, AC/DC voltage, electrical circuits, and electrical distribution
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting, instrumentation and other electrical troubleshooting and repairs
- Ability to understand and interpret electrical drawings, schematic drawings of pneumatic loops, hardware relay logic diagrams, PLC control programs, motor control circuit diagrams, electrical classification drawings, etc.
- Demonstration of excellent troubleshooting skills and continuous improvement mindset.
- Use of computers and all usual office equipment with a working knowledge of Office software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc
- Knowledge of Thermocouples, RTD’s, Load Cell’s, Pressure Transducer’s, Flowmeters and associated instrumentation
- Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
