Job Summary

The Plant Manager (PM) has direct responsibility for the overall operation of the Memphis  plant.  This position is directly responsible for the Memphis Plant Fixed Assets (~290 million) Annual RPE budget 14M; Annual Variable Cost budget in excess of $19M; and annual Capital budget which varies from $4M to 5M

Site has 59 employees and is unionized

The PM has full P/L responsibility and provides leadership, direction, and management for all aspects of the plant’s manufacturing operations.  The PM assists in the creation of the organization’s vision and growth strategies and executes the business and operations plans to achieve revenue, profit, and performance targets while continuing the plant’s record of success and high levels of safety and customer service. All Memphis plant employees report directly or indirectly to this position; overall accountability for ~8 reports. 

 

The Plant Manager directly supports Plant Staff to manage activities and lead continued improvement in the areas of Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources, Engineering, Accounting, Purchasing, Quality, and Laboratories.  The PM possesses a strong, working knowledge and ensures compliance related to all external regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal policies and procedures (specifically capital, accounting, purchasing, and HES).  This position requires a strong change management leader to manage the business growth and integration of new programs. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities with % Breakdown:

Safety and Environment – 20%

HSE responsibilities include but are not restricted to those outlined in Leadership expectations such as reporting any incident in a timely manner.

  • Insures plant is in full compliance with Arkema guidance and directives along with all applicable regulations.
  • Foster a culture of “0 is possible” and drives Safety as a core plant value.
  • Directly participates to some core Arkema programs such as BBS.

Operations – 50%

Ensures that safe operating procedures and practices are in place and followed.  Ensures that mechanical integrity of all plants is maintained or improved to allow safe and efficient operation.  Ensures that plants produce at volumes to meet demand requirements set forth in S&OP plans.  Ensures that adequate training is provided for a safe and efficient plant operations.

Human Resources – 10%

Ensures that employee activities related to hiring, promotion, layoff, salary, etc. are handled professionally.  Provides an atmosphere for open communication between all employees.

Financial–10%

 Directly accountable to prepare various budgets (fixed, variable and capex) then monitors and controls to insure these budgets are met.

Others: 10%

    • Communication: direct contact with external stakeholder such a local authorities and Community Advisory Panel.
  • Mentoring/Coaching:  Develop close working relationships with plant personnel and places a strong focus on improving both individual and team performance supporting programs such as SMART

Minimum Qualifications and Education Required

Min Years of Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive manufacturing experience in plant operations, process design, and engineering, preferably in both a large and small-size integrated process manufacturing company 

 
 
 

Education and area of focus

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.

 

 

 

Certifications/Trainings:

Lean or Six Sigma certification preferred 

 

Competencies -Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Leadership experience in a specialty chemicals or petroleum plant is required.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives is required.
  • Good knowledge of PC applications (including Microsoft Office suite and SAP) accounting systems and the ability to learn new system processes, preferably SAP experience.
  • Knowledge of latest safety laws and regulations

HES Requirement – All Jobs

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Drives behavior based safety culture by supporting BBS process. Performs observations and encourages all direct reports to participate in BBS.
  • Must comply with all external regulatory requirements, industry best practices and internal policies.
  • Works as a liaison with technical support team to ensure process operations receive required technical support
  • Supports all compliance efforts for API products to meet regulatory and certification requirements
