Job Summary
This position reports directly to the CS Regional HSE Leader - AMAS. Peers include the Subject Matter Experts (SME) in Coatings Solution Platform (CSP) Environmental, and Process Safety.
The role exists to assist, coordinate, or oversee all programs, activities, issues, incident response & investigations related to Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene and other HSE support topics for the Coatings Solution Segment (CSS) operations at each regional AMAS manufacturing or laboratory location.
This individual will act as a Coatings Solution Segment (CSS) Resource in the area of Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene Management and Major risk prevention. Position will physically reside at a Virtual / Remote office location when not physically visiting a Coatings Solution Segment (CSS) site.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Identify the major activities or responsibilities of the job (usually 4 to 6). Using a short phrase name or list each activity; estimate the percentage of time spent on each one. Then describe each activity in detail, and how it is done. Use increments of 10% and higher.
- Provide guidance, assistance, and technical support to Coatings Solution Segment (CSS) operations at each site to help maintain compliance and achieve company objectives in terms of Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene and other HSE topics. Annual priorities will often be dictated by ‘Focused HSE Programs / ESSENTIAL elements’ announced by DSEG. Activities could include yet not limited to development and implementation of initiatives aimed at improving overall safety (Safe Work Permitting, Line of Fire analysis etc.), complete coordination of onsite Industrial Hygiene programs (Respirator Fit, Chemical Exposure Testing, Case Management), Immediate Response Assistance and special Task Force initiatives resulting from Root Cause Investigations (i.e. Machine Guarding Campaigns, Job Safety Analyses). (60%)
- Leadership role in the Coatings Solution Segment (CSS) Network through frequent technical meetings, development and support for training programs, harmonization of Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs and practices to ensure BU-wide consistency. (5%)
- Participation as requested in the HSE Leadership Review (HSE LR) program for regional HSE Leaders including constructive guidance on presentation efforts, information sharing on identified topics, and professional guidance on content and understanding. (5%)
- Primary contact and liaison with Arkema DSEG and KOP for matters and programs related to Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene include incident details, program development, and performance metric development, tracking and trending. (5%)
- Scheduling, Resource Loading and Technical Review of Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene efforts throughout the Coatings Solution Segment (CSS) including Industrial Hygiene Plans and testing, Occupational Safety Reviews and Analysis at Coatings Solution Segment (CSS) sites, and additional efforts as related to Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene considerations. (10%)
- Provide support and / or technical assistance for capital projects, siting studies and diligence efforts, particularly in the areas of Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene considerations. (5%)
- Participate in Root Cause Investigations of Major Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene Incidents and/or select other Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene events including identification of root causes / corrective actions, plans, communications of results to Arkema / ACR Senior Management and necessary follow-up. (5%)
- Coordinate Occupational Risk Assessment efforts via STARMAP, Atlas or other appropriate ORA tools using spreadsheets, or other means approved by the DSEG or KOP to complete Risk Assessments on the required and approved frequency throughout the Coatings Solution Platform (CSP). (5%)
Minimum Qualifications and Education Required
Min Years of Experience Five years’ experience in similar or related role in a manufacturing environment
Education and area of focus
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study (engineering, chemistry, occupational health & safety or similar)
- Working knowledge of HSE regulations, Occupational Safety & Health, process safety, management, environmental regulation (particularly RCRA, Emergency Response and other relevant requirements.
Occupational Safety Management
- Experienced in Arkema approved Root Cause Investigations
- Previous Chemical Manufacturing experience
- Experience with Contractor Management programs and oversight
- Excellent skills in communications and leading technical teams

HES Requirement –
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
Physical Demands / Working Conditions:
- Capable of working in all operational, maintenance and/or utility areas of a chemical manufacturing facility; Work is conducted in a manufacturing environment requiring PPEs
- Travel is domestic approximately 25-50% of the time
