Job Title: Logistics Technician

 

Situation in organization

Position reports directly to the Production Manager. 

 

Job dimensions

Responsible for the manufacture, packaging, and distribution of specialty chemical products.

 

Key Activities and responsibilities
 

Support the production of all products by organizing and facilitating the flow of packaged materials into, within and out of the plant.

 

Loading/Unloading Package Goods & Bulk Offloading-40%

Responsibilities include off-loading incoming packaged materials and loading finished packaged product onto an outside carrier’s vehicle; housekeeping, inspection and organization of plant storage areas; preparation of all required shipping paperwork; inspection of all delivery paperwork; final inspection and verification of orders leaving the facility; and any other duties as directed by Site Leadership. 

Is responsible to support and strive to meet the Plant Goals as provided by the Plant Manager. Insures that all activities under his/her direction are performed in accordance within regulatory compliance with those regulations as listed in Environmental Calendar, the OSHA standards table 1910.19 –1910.1000, 29 CFR, and 49 CFR and specifically Air Permit 100-07A, as well as:

  • Ensures that product being shipped is packaged properly and adequately for safe transportation and that the FIFO inventory practice is always followed unless specific instruction not to, is documented.
  • Inspects outgoing goods to ensure:
  • Labeling is accurate and complete
  • Containers are clean and show no indication of leaks
  • Bungs are tightened to the correct torque
  • Operates forklift to off-load drums, pallets or any packaged raw material, supply or finished goods from incoming van (box) trailer or container and delivers them to the appropriate destination within the plant.

Warehouse Material Handling-30%

  • Palletizes and/or stages orders scheduled for shipping taking steps to ensure the correct count and that all finished goods are within their shelf life.
  • Ensures that all non AA material is stored in the designated quarantine area.
  • Ensures that all storage of raw materials and finished goods is organized and labeled.
  • Assists with both periodic cycle counts and planned facility-wide physical inventory.
  • Segregates aged and rework inventory from saleable finished goods to ensure compliance with plant procedures.
  • Maintains (in conjunction with other production personnel) the overall organization and housekeeping of warehouses and storage pads.
  • Rotates stock to ensure materials are handled on a “first in, first out” basis.
  • Operates forklift to rearrange goods/materials

 

Latex Packaging-10%

  • Packaging off tankers into drums or totes.

Shipping Documentation/SAP-10%

  • Ensures accurate documentation and safe unloading all bulk, vans, and trailers for LTL, TL, UPS and Air shipments.
  • that all feedback, bills of lading and COA’s, printed through SAP are accurate and that all shipments are made meet all pertinent State and Federal regulatory requirements
  • Inspects and approves delivery paperwork per plant procedure.
  • Ensure all outgoing orders meet DOT standards for the shipment of hazardous materials.
  • Assembles and ensures the accuracy/completeness of all shipping paperwork.

Other Duties-10%

  • Responsible for timely shipments of quality product to the customer.
  • Consolidates and organizes to facilitate the flow of materials.
  • Patrols work area to detect leaks and equipment malfunctions, and monitor operating conditions.

Context and environment

 

This position will be based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Maintenance work will occasionally require confined space entries, working at elevated heights, using respirators, working outdoors, etc. Travel is 5%.

 

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Report Incidents or Accidents to the direct supervisor and actively participates in the root cause investigation, potentially leading depending on complexity with tools like 5W2H-5Why.
  • Participate actively in daily SMART Tier 1 and Tier 2 meetings. Facilitates Tier 1 meeting as needed

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

 

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing; prefer chemical manufacturing
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers
  • Highly motivated team player able to work at a fast pace
  • Required to climb ladders if needed
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Wear PPE including Full face air purifying respirator
  • Drive a fork lift truck
  • Dedication to SMART
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments, working as a team to achieve a common goal.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers outside of the Grand Rapids Plant. 
  • Ability to notice the details, intervening when a problem is small, preventing it from becoming a large problem.
  • Highly motivated team player able to work at a fast pace
