Chemical Engineer

Job Summary:

The Process Chemical Engineer collaborates with the plant technical team, operations, business group, corporate technology and engineering consultants to provide process engineering support to the plant production department. Develops systems, procedures, policies and equipment to sustainably improve the safety, cost, quality and reliability of organic peroxides production and profitability of the business.

 

Job Duties:

Engineering (100%)

  • Oversees efficient performance of multiple production processes
  • Collects and analyzes data which may not be readily available utilizing sound engineering judgment and statistical methods
  • Solves technical problems in differing chemical processes with ingenuity and originality
  • Evaluates technical data, procedures, policies/regulations, while developing appropriate and cost effective solution options. 
  • Improves process unit operations including environmental systems
  • Communicates concise summaries of process performance and recommends improvements
  • Project manager for process improvement capital projects
  • Interacts with and leads other in-plant or outside technical resources to complete projects.
  • Participate and/or lead Process Hazard Analysis and Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews for small to moderate projects
  • Leads reliability improvement teams
  • Conducts pilot and plant scale test batches
  • Develops PFD’s (Process Flow Diagrams) and mass balances for new processes
  • Prepares operating manuals and process documents
  • Develops operator training documents and plans
  • Follows safe, environmentally sound engineering practices and exercises sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Supports plant safety process by completing observations
  • Supports Loss Control policy, AIMS and OHSAS 18001 management systems.
  • Complies with all external regulatory requirements, industry best practices and internal policies.
  • Available to support continuous plant operations as needed. 
  • Ability to wear personnel protective equipment such as respirators
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, CARES, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
