The Senior Staff Technician directly reports to Hot Melt PSA R&D in Dublin, OH under the Advanced Packaging & Converting BU and will dotted line report to the PSA Technical Service Group Manager. This roll will support HMPSA coating, lab mixes, lab testing and data analysis primarily for hot melts but will additionally support Acrylic technology for TS.

• Active in several departmental safety initiatives such as participation on steering teams or making safety presentations (safety

topics, observations, reporting).

• Leads laboratory initiatives and/or Safety Team subtopics.

• Mentors new employees in the work group to practice safe working habits.

• Operates in compliance with site safety policies, including material handling and waste disposal.

 

KNOW HOW

• Associates degree in technology field + 5 years experience, or high school education + 10 years experience in a technical

field.

• Proficient with computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, etc.).

• Organizes and analyzes data to explain conclusions and outcomes internally and to customers. Communicates effectively,

both verbally and in writing.

• Follows established procedures, making modifications within the guidelines of practices as needed. Undertakes projects and

project segments following detailed project protocol and established practices.

• Applies thorough understanding of operation of equipment and processes to identify possible sources of problems.

• Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and recommends improvements and operates equipment to evaluate modifications.

• Utilizes measuring devices, complex diagnostic equipment, and scientific reports.

• Modifies prototypes to improve performance under direction of scientist.

• Demonstrates a commitment to performing lab work ethically and lawfully.

 

PROBLEM SOLVING

• Starting with established procedures, can make process or mechanical changes as needed.

• Can apply basic scientific principals towards solutions or improvements.

• Can evaluate test results to determine whether problem has been solved.

• Capable of summarizing and explaining test results.

• Documents new standard operating procedures.

• Utilizes measuring devices, complex equipment and scientific reports to aid in problem solving.

• Can carry out simple mechanical modifications of experimental apparatus.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

• Interfaces mainly within own division, tapped as consultant within division. Participates in meetings with outside support

organizations (contractors, vendors, etc.).

• Designs specific test procedures when given general outline of instructions with minimal supervision.

• Keeps up-to-date Electronic Lab Notebook. Writes summaries and conclusions based on results.

• Solicits and applies information from within the local organization to make sure tests or processes are being carried out in the

most efficient, accurate way.

• Participates in discussions to develop work schedules and deadlines for results.

• Enlists other persons in the organization as resources to support project work.

• Mentors/trains new or temporary persons in the organization.

• Has strong relationships with internal customers and support departments.

• Completes and documents technical service and application projects with supervision.

• Shares knowledge and expertise related to products and processes. Assists in the orientation, mentoring and development of

junior technical staff.

• Publishes reports for internal distribution with editorial review as required.

• Understands internal customer needs and makes appropriate product and/or process recommendations to resolve problems.

• Prepares SOPs in uncovered areas for review and approval, acts as equipment owner overseeing and training other users,

and generally presents study findings in report form.

 

LEADERSHIP AND INFLUENCE

• Trains and mentors new employees in area of expertise and may conduct training for customers and sales

people.

• Is effective team player with leadership potential.

• Influences project team colleagues and internal customers.

• Begins to take on a technical leadership role in lab operations demonstrating ability to meet objectives and

timelines
