EHS Specialist
The role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, as well as company standards and policies related to environmental and industrial safety. It also includes coordinating all activities associated with the company’s environmental and industrial safety program requirements to support a safe and compliant workplace.
Responsibilities:
• Build and promote a strong safety culture throughout the facility
• Actively manage EHS programs such as the plant Safety Committee, Behavior Based Safety (BBS), hazard communication, training, incident management, incident investigation and corrective actions, waste management & minimization, safe work permits, etc.
• Evaluate and update Task Hazard Analyses (THAs) and PPE Assessments
• Lead hazard hunts at the plant in conjunction with Corporate safety group focus
• On-floor verification of site procedures and assistance with QEHS Manager with the development, implementation, and maintenance of plant EHS&S policies and procedures in accordance with Arkema requirements
• Evaluate contractors for safe work in accordance with plant policies
• Participate in audits/inspections (internal or regulatory agency)
• With QEHS Manager, interface with regulatory agencies, as needed, on compliance and/or enforcement issues
• Assist QEHS Manager in the preparation of Environmental and Safety reports per Arkema, Local, State, and Federal requirements
• Coordinate all certifications and evaluations related to EHS including but not limited to industrial hygiene programs, scheduling medical evaluations, etc.
• Provide EHS orientation for new employees
• Participate in MOC activities as necessary, including new chemical/material review
• Manage site PPE distribution and safety equipment
• Act as an EHS technical resource for EHS information related to capital project reviews
• Communicate with site management team with regard to EHS challenges/activities/performance
• Participate in information-sharing meetings with EHS personnel from other plants within the company (e.g., weekly Time Out for Safety; monthly EHS Forum)
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
• At least 50% of time expected to be spent on the floor
• Frequent interpersonal communication
• Participation in management meetings, plant meetings, and training sessions
• Heavy use of computer software
• Occasional travel required

• Actively identify, communicate, and implement improvement needs and initiatives in EHS
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• At least two-year college degree in occupational safety, environmental sciences, or other related discipline(s) OR at least 2+ years commensurate work experience in chemical/manufacturing industry
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook
• Experienced in managing / leading EHS programs
• Must have a go-getter attitude and be able to lead change
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
• Capable of effective conflict resolution
• Able to identify, assess, prioritize, and manage risk appropriately
• Able to prioritize and manage time effectively
