Technical Service Engineer

Chester, SC

 

This position reports to the Technical Service Manager.

Connect customers to innovative solutions through formulating existing products and developing new product offerings.

Develop and commercialize new products.

Identify new technologies relevant to business needs and supporting customer specific programs.

 

Key Activities and responsibilitie:

 

Development/Commercialization of New Products (50%)

  • Responsible for the development and commercialization of new technologies and product concepts that provide differentiated performance in the marketplace.
  • Identifies and quantifies product improvement opportunities and proposes to technical/commercial communities.
  • Participate in project teams in the execution of project plans.
  • Learn to apply, execute, and document design of experimental techniques.
  • Works with Synthesis, Process, Marketing and Sales teams to ensure alignment and delivery of technical goals, strategies and coordination of appropriate resources across the cross-functional team.
  • Fosters an interdependent safety culture in all activities. Ensures safe operations in all activities.
  • Ensures high level of technical excellence through sound use of scientific principles, critical thought, creative problem solving, analytical thinking, open and honest communication of best practices.

 

Customer Interaction (50%)

  • Interact with customers to identify needs and opportunities and translate them into technical projects.
  • Completes and documents technical service and application projects with limited supervision.
  • Prepares timely project updates, presentations, and reports to peer and business stakeholders. Ensures completion of formal reports upon completion of projects.
  • Documents experimental work while recognizing and protecting intellectual property.
  • Identifies and establishes opportunities for technical exchange and collaboration between internal and external groups to enhance capabilities and knowledge. Maintains a strong technical network.

 

Context and environment:

 

  • Works closely with RSA customers and R&D synthesis, process scientists and engineers in the development and commercialization of new products.
  • Works closely with peer group to ensure development and propagation of best practices and functional excellence.
  • Requires 20% travel.
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.

 

Required Education/Qualifications:

 

  • BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science/Engineering, Material Science or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in technical service, formulation or applications development.
  • Prior experience in a customer facing role is highly preferred.

 

Demonstrated Competencie:

 

  • Demonstrated track record of technical success and technical knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of the coatings industry, formulation science and applications.
  • Business acumen.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Salesforce and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to resolve issue in a collaborative manner for the overall satisfaction of key stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
  • Strong Communication and goal alignment skills between other functional areas.
