Staff Environmental Specialist

Location: Calvert City, Kentucky
Department: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)
Position Type: Full-Time Salary Exempt

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Staff Environmental Specialist to support and maintain environmental compliance programs at our manufacturing facility in Calvert City, KY. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and corporate standards related to air, water, and waste management operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and EHS teams to drive environmental performance, support regulatory compliance, and promote continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit environmental monitoring, compliance, and performance reports to regulatory agencies and corporate stakeholders.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret environmental and operating data to ensure compliance with applicable permits and regulations.
  • Support and sustain environmental management systems, including ISO 14001 and other integrated management system requirements.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits and assessments to verify adherence to regulatory and company requirements.
  • Provide environmental guidance and support for engineering and capital projects, including permitting and regulatory evaluations.
  • Monitor changes in environmental regulations and communicate impacts and compliance requirements to site personnel.
  • Coordinate reporting of environmental incidents, permit deviations, and regulatory notifications as required.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training programs for employees.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and EHS teams to maintain and improve environmental procedures and practices.
  • Prepare permit applications, modifications, and supporting documentation for state and federal agencies.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, and corporate environmental resources regarding compliance and permitting activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Occupational Safety & Health
    • Or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant environmental, regulatory, or industrial experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret environmental regulations and apply them in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technical report writing.

Preferred

  • Experience managing environmental compliance programs within a chemical, manufacturing, or industrial facility.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations related to:
    • Air permitting and compliance
    • Water discharge permits (KPDES/NPDES)
    • Hazardous waste management (RCRA)
    • Industrial environmental reporting requirements
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or other environmental management systems.
  • Environmental permitting experience.
