Job Summary 

 

Provides technical support at the plant and supports plant processes, systems, procedures policies and equipment.  Supports the plant level improvement process.  Provides plant level capital project support which may include fulfilling roles in the project execution.

Job is plant based and committed to special assignments with Arkema as approved.  On call for process related events some nights and weekends.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Production Support (50%)

  • Responsible for process chemistry, technology and basics of process controls to provide technical support and troubleshoot process to ensure reliable and continuous operation of the production units during normal and abnormal operations.
  • Support all production units, including Waste Water processing as needed.  Schedule waste pick up when Production/Environmental Specialist is absent.
  • Assist in product campaign planning and monitoring.
  • Occasional night/weekend coverage for operations support (remote)
  • Troubleshoot DCS issues and suggest/make improvement to the DCS system.
  • Understand the capabilities and limitation of the process and equipment.  Monitor production performance, safety, quality, mass balance & metrics, yield, OEE, variable and fixed cost; work to improve reliability.
  • Point of contact for all electronic control systems including but not limited to Adept and PI Process/Vision
  • Participate in daily cross-functional production meetings.
  • Manage and update production documents through EDMS.

 

Continuous Improvement (30%)

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement appropriate solutions to improve the plant performance; total manufacturing cost including variable and fixed costs, safety, product quality, and commercialization of new products in a timely & effective manner.
  • Prioritizes projects based on urgency, impact, cost, etc. and sets the plan.
  • Investigate and introduce new technologies to improve the plant capabilities & performance for new products.
  • Develop projects of increasing scope and budget;  include implementation plan and resource requirements
  • Define and support technical programs
  • Support the scale-up, trials, and commercialization of new products

HES support (10%)

  • Conduct MOC, element champion for PSM
  • Key contributor in PHAs, JSAs, MSM and other corporate or plant initiatives
  • Participate in RCA’s to improve performance and safety

 

Leadership (5%)

  • Responsible for coordination of the Drexel Coops program and mentoring of student
  • Advocate to the Arkema SMART methodology for the site
  • Lead, coordinate, and manage plant projects (including some capital projects).

 

Quality & Customer Service Support (5%)

  • Participate actively in the improvement of the Quality System to ensure production and shipping good quality product that meets or exceeds the customer expectation; participate in RCA for off-spec batches.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications and Education Required

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 plus years of experience in a chemical manufacturing plant preferred (including co-ops, internships, etc.)
  • Experience with DCS for manufacturing preferred

 

 

Education and area of focus

  • BS Chemical engineering strongly preferred. 
  • Other engineering disciplines may be acceptable

 

Certifications/Trainings:         

  • Six-sigma, RCA, PHA training/ certification highly preferred
  • Training in incident investigation techniques

HES Requirement – All Jobs  

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

Plant based with all inherent risk of a PSM facility.
