Director of Business Development – NA Building Component

Job dimensions

Strategic Dimensions

  • Serve on the Global Building Component Steering Committee
  • Strategic thinker and planner with the ability to keep the ‘big picture’ in mind while being involved in virtually all key new revenue generation initiatives.
  • Lead the NA Market Segment Team for Building Component, and execute our strategic plan

 

Tactical Dimensions

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Business Development Team focused on large opportunities to grow the business at targeted profit margins. Manages the pipeline and is responsible for driving new opportunities toward commercialization.
  • Oversee all BD activities related to marketing communication (trade shows, digital, etc.)
  • Attend industry tradeshows and build a network of relationships and partnerships
  • Responsible for managing BD department budget.
  • Consult with business stakeholders members on daily business decisions.
  • Target segments include Building Envelope (waterproofing), Window & Door, Panel-Insulation-Prefab
  • For assigned segments, this role is the external technical face of Bostik. He/she is recognized by customers, allied suppliers, OEMs, and other influencers as an industry and technology expert. 
  • The role will bring market intelligence back into the organization to feed into our segment strategy. 
  • This role will be measured on New Business growth.

 

 

Activities

Strategic Activities

  • Develop and execute BD strategies for the Business Unit using knowledge of the Company’s capabilities, customers, competitors and industry trends.
  • Contribute to global BD activity involving transferable technologies, applications and accounts
  • Establish performance goals for assigned team of employees and monitor performance on a continual basis.
  • Support NA DG acquisition related activities when need be

 

Tactical Activities

  • Drive Salesforce.com CRM platform practices to measure new business development activity and outcome
  • Lead monthly team meetings to ensure actions are properly prioritized and executed (MST)
  • Develop relationships in the field in the specific market segments. 
  • Manage technical communication between prospects, specifiers, technical stakeholders, and our technical & marketing teams
  • Provide training of external key stakeholders and prospects on all relevant technologies and applications.

 

 

Context and environment

  • Travel to leading industry trade shows, key customer and prospect locations as well as internationally to Europe and Asia. Travel is up to 30%
  • Oversee an expanding product and application portfolio with constrained resources
  • Drive programs through a matrix/shared services organization with necessary paperwork, extensive processes and sign offs.

•    Practice Safe work habits in accordance with OSHA, EPA guidelines, and Bostik-specific EHS expectations.

 

 

 

Accountabilities

  • Accountable for delivering the budgeted new business sales and margin every year
  • Accountable to deliver a 3-year plan to develop profitable sales and deploy the structure and resources to achieve the goals laid out in the plan.
  • Accountable to deliver the necessary support to the Global Building Component Steering committee
  • Support the sales activity of the NA DG Building Component team when support is required
  • Communicate monthly the financial and non-financial key highlights of the BD activity versus KPIs

 

Qualifications / experience required- education, minimum years of experience, technical/personal skills required 

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and motivational skills.
  • 7+ years of Marketing of BD or sales management experience in the building materials sector, preferably from a leading, global manufacturing organization.
  • MBA desired.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting to large audiences and senior executives.
  • Ability to lead team meetings, motivate employees and handle many projects simultaneously. 
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Salesforce.com.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 30%
