SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION :

Reports to the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

JOB DIMENSIONS:

This position performs all tasks associated with the safe operations of the wastewater treatment plant to ensure environmental compliance to permits issued by regulatory agencies both State and Federal, performs routine testing and sampling for plant discharges, and performs regular maintenance of equipment to prevent upsets and mechanical failures.

 

Activities:

Waste Water Treatment Operations (70%)

  • Operate DAF unit to remove waste solids and adjust flows and chemicals based on plant water supply.
  • Balance nutrients to support life and growth of biological system.
  • Collect samples and perform daily testing and record. Testing includes COD, TSS, MLSS, PH, Nitrates, Phosphates, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen.
  • Make adjustments to wastewater system to maintain performance and compliance and report any excursions to appropriate personnel.
  • Collect samples for delivery to contract laboratory twice per quarter for effluent testing and once per quarter Stormwater testing for permit compliance.
  • Record daily flows and rain event levels.
  • Order raw materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Operate a forklift as needed.
  • Operate tractor with PTO that powers a vacuum pump.
  • Maintain wastewater facility housekeeping inside and outside of buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Maintenance Activities (30%)

  • Maintain all equipment for basic repairs.
  • Perform simple routine Preventative Maintenance activities safely and efficiently.

 

Context and environment

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Bostik (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and appropriately investigated, and corrective actions implemented.
  • Observe safe work practices in performing all duties at all times and maintain standards of excellence in housekeeping.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations within the limits of training and qualifications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications / experience required

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintain minimum “B” PC or BIO wastewater license to be operator of record for the facility which includes annual renewal as well as required continuing education classes every two years.
  • 3+ years of chemical environment experience.
  • Experience in forklift operation.
  • Ability to perform physical essentials (climb stairs and/or ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, drag hoses).
  • Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft applications, Outlook).
  • Willing to work an off shift and overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
