Position Summary:

As a Chemist, you will work closely with R&D Scientist and Senior Product Development Manager primarily supporting product development, raw material characterization, and specification development for emulsifiers, adhesion promoters, warm mix additives, and other related chemistries.  You will learn and execute a variety of manufacturing and testing procedures, including organic synthesis techniques.  You will refine and development testing protocols for new chemistries.  You will perform downstream product testing on the chemistry and to scale up products

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize chemistry background to propose solutions to gaps in product and/or market for the segments, develop structure-property relationships.
  • Develop test programs to achieve product performance targets relative to organic synthesis chemistries in emulsifiers, adhesion promoters and warm mix additives and related chemistries.
  • Evaluate raw materials and manufacturing options for new and refined product formulations.
  • Develop manufacturing and quality control protocols for products and raw materials.  Recommend changes as necessary.
  • Support plant manufacturing scale-up and on-going commercial production of products.
  • Execute development activities within Arkema – Road Science achieving product performance objectives and robustness plan, deliverable milestones, roll-out timing to maintain costs that aligns with business needs.
  • Communicate and interact with Arkema – Road Science Commercial team and Arkema peers to understand product performance requirements and needs.
  • Create and Maintain Standard Lab Operating and plant quality control procedures to ensure manufacture of consistent product quality, execution of operational procedures and quality control data.
  • Understand and Operate a Safe Laboratory Working Environment maintaining necessary training, organization, inventory, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Provide consistently Clear and Concise Communication, in both written and verbal form, to internal and external customers.
  • Support and participate in downstream laboratory testing programs properly support Product Development, including asphalt products and asphalt emulsions.
  • Ensure all data and records are properly maintained.
  • Create a collaborative product development environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of specifications (AASHTO, ASTM, State DOT).
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

To be effective in the position from the outset, the following experience is preferred:

  • Masters in Organic Chemistry or related Scientific Discipline (required)
  • 3+ Years’ experience in organic synthesis testing or related surfactant formulations. 
  • Laboratory and plant operational support a plus
