The Run Plant Engineer reports directly to the Torrance Operations Manager.  No direct reports. 

 

 

JOB DIMENSIONS

 

 

The Run Plant Engineer provides technical (chemical engineering) support at the plant and gains experience with plant processes, systems, procedures, policies, and equipment.

 

 

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Makes routine process calculations, collects, records, analyzes data
  • Reports Production Data (OAU) monthly for the site and quarterly to Director of Manufacturing
  • Coordinates process sampling
  • Assists the production/operations in trouble shooting specific process problems
  • Assists Improvement Engineer and Process Automation Engineer in new process start-ups
  • Acts as emergency back-up for Process automation support
  • Guide/Instruct the Development Engineer (DE) in learning the site’s production process
  • Appropriately organizes data and files documents and records
  • Assist product development in new product scale ups
  • Lead site activities around new product scale-ups
  • Meet all legal, regulatory and other *requirements of the site through general awareness and training
  • Participate in HSEQ *activities provided by the site management. Arkema Coating Resins and Arkema, Inc.
  • Lead/Coordinate the SMART initiative at the site
  • Identify and communicate the potential gains and possible improvements related to the work environment and management system through employee suggestion programs, during group meetings, or through *other identified communication tools
  • Remain in compliance with the *rules, *standard procedures and *work instructions related to the specific job title and site location
  • Complete *assigned training through Arkema learning management system or attendance to assigned Web-Ex or Instructor Led Training (ILT) classes
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Works on specific well-defined job assignments under close supervision, following safe, environmentally sound engineering practices
  • Receives specific direction and detailed instructions concerning the required task and results expected, including timing constraints and priorities
  • Assigned work is reviewed for accuracy and completeness

  • Applies theoretical principles along with reorganized and generally accepted good engineering practices under close supervision to solve assigned problems
  • Aware of pertinent company and governmental safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Able to handle several small projects/tasks concurrently
  • Works in a team environment and has the ability to communicate and work together with other technical people from multiple disciplines (i.e. project engineering, maintenance, safety, environment, research and development)

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

 

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or relevant demonstrated ability in unit operations, heat transfer, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, process control, separation processes, mass transfer, energy balances, fluid mechanics, advanced mathematics and physics
  • Basic skills in statistics, computers (spreadsheets and word processing), technical writing, and public speaking and listening skills are also desired 
  • Reads and understands process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping instrumentation diagrams (P and Ids)

  • Comply with Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements as made known by the site and by the business unit (BU)
  • Comply with the rules of the specific location to which one is assigned as well as the rules set by the business unit (BU) and Arkema Inc.
  • Comply with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness
  • Review their work areas for potential losses and Report hazards to the direct supervisor.
  • Report Near Misses to the direct supervisor
  • Report Incidents or Accidents to the direct supervisor
  • Identify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system
