SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION

The Plant Manager (PM) reports to the Coating Solutions Regional Manufacturing Manager AMAS WBR-Resins and has responsibility for overseeing three department managers (Operations, Health-Safety-Environmental & Quality (HESQ) and Maintenance. This position also has five direct reports that are individual contributors (Plant Admin, Improvement Specialist, Production Planner, Logistics Coordinator and Production Data Analyst). Accountable for a plant size of 38 employees.

 

JOB DIMENSIONS

The Torrance PM is responsible for 1 site with the production capability of 144 MMLBS.

The PM has full P/L responsibility and provides leadership, direction, and management for all aspects of the plant’s manufacturing operations. The PM assists in the creation of the organization’s vision and growth strategies and executes the business and operations plans to achieve revenue, profit, and performance targets while continuing the plant’s record of success and high levels of safety and customer service.

The PM works closely with the Commercial organization to support key customers and opportunities and contributes to the customer quality and service processes. The PM also works closely with the Recipe Industrialization Team to assist with the commercialization of new products. The PM ensures that both manufacturing capacity and product development initiatives align with the current and future needs of the customer. They work to identify, secure, and execute the required capital support in collaboration with the Regional Manufacturing Manager.

The PM directly supports Plant Staff to manage activities and steer  continued improvement in the areas of Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources, Engineering, Accounting, Purchasing, Quality, and Laboratories. The PM possesses an experienced working knowledge of, and ensures compliance related to, all external regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal policies and procedures (specifically capital, accounting, purchasing, and HES).

 

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

30% Operation & Financial Management

Operations: Ensures safe operating procedures and practices are current and strictly followed. Monitors plant production levels to ensure that volumes meet demand requirements set forth by S&OP plan.

Technical: Facilitates Reliability Improvement Process to maximize unit productivity while optimizing operating costs. Oversees capital use to provide return on investment, increase asset value, maintain infrastructure and meet business needs.

Key Metrics: HSE performance; Supply/Demand Balance including Working Capital; Customer Service Level; MUV, Yield, Quality-COPQ/NPS; RPE cost; Profitability by product family; Execution of key initiatives.

 

30% HESQ

Safety: Facilitates integration of plant loss control practices with Arkema’s Integrated Management System (AIMS) elements for both occupational and process safety. Ensures policies and procedures are in place to promote safety beliefs and advance safety as a core value.

Environmental: Steer  efforts to improve work processes to both insure and maintain regulatory compliance.

Services: Maintains integrity of quality assurance program to satisfy customers and protect Arkema from liability. Ensures that purchasing activities are conducted in an ethical manner and that necessary MRO parts are available and obtained at a competitive cost.

 

30% Team Work & Leadership

Mentoring/Coaching: Develop close working relationships with plant personnel and champions    improvement of both individual and team performance.

Communication: Manage timely communication to all stakeholders – both internal and external to the plant.

Human Resources: Ensures that activities related to recruitment, training, payroll, employee separations, etc. are handled in a professional manner.

10% Other: Heads-up, manages and supports all components of AIMS. Runs the plant efforts to contribute to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

 

Other duties as assigned.

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

• Has minimal (<10%) travel obligations — both domestic and international.

• Site operates 24/7. Plant Manager may need to be available on call or in person for urgent matters.

• High profile / key leadership position within the plant that works closely with every department, sales and marketing, customers and the community. Has direct daily involvement with most of the activities in the facility.

• Maintain High level of communication with the Business through the Plant Support Staff.

• Close interaction with the Business Management Team and Product Management Team.

• Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements

• Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)

• Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

• Supports and promotes Arkema’s SMART program

 

HSEQ RESPONSIBILITIES

• Comply with the HSEQ Policy.

• Comply with Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements as made known by the site and by the business unit (BU).

• Comply with the rules of the specific location to which one is assigned as well as the rules set by the business unit (BU) and Arkema Inc.

• Comply with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness.

• Review their work areas for potential losses and Report hazards to the direct supervisor.

• Report Near Misses to the direct supervisor.

• Report Incidents or Accidents to the direct supervisor.

• Identify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field of study (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is required.

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive manufacturing experience in plant operations, process design, and engineering, preferably in both a large and small-size integrated process manufacturing company

• Leadership experience in a related industry, such as  a chemical or petroleum plant is required.

• Experience steering continuous improvement initiatives is required. Lean or Six Sigma certification preferred.

• Good knowledge of PC applications (including Microsoft Office suite; Lotus Notes; and SAP)accounting systems and the ability to learn new system processes, preferably SAP experience.

• Knowledge of latest safety laws and regulations
