Operator - Ringwood, IL  Starting wage $24/hr

Job title:  Production Operator (2nd Shift or 3rd Shift)

Production Operator safely operate and maintain chemical processing equipment, troubleshoot issues, and ensure quality production while adhering to environmental and safety standards. Ideal candidates have mechanical aptitude, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work rotating shifts. This position reports to the production supervisor.

Activities
  • Follow procedures to safely produce and package batches of chemical products that meet quality specifications
  • Follows all company, plant policies & practices to ensure safety, quality, service, and cost objectives are met.
  • Utilize automated control systems along with manual operations to operate process equipment
  • Weigh and accurately charge various chemicals to process vessels
  • Work with various types of equipment to produce adhesives (e.g. pumps, filters, solids handing unit, packaging machines, reactors and mixers, etc.)
  • Apply critical thinking to identify, troubleshoot and diagnose process and equipment issues
  • Perform light maintenance, prepare equipment for others to safely perform maintenance and issue work permits
  • Complete batch related documentation and productions entries in SAP system
  • Perform daily housekeeping tasks and maintain an organized work environment
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervision
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations within the limits of training and qualifications.
  • Ability to work as a team, and respond to call outs and work overtime as needed
  • Commitment to safe and environmentally responsible operation of all aspects of a batch chemical process
  • Operate Fork Truck, pallet jacks and other equipment to move/relocate materials
Context and environment
  • Work under minimal supervisor work in a fast-paced production environment where safety, accuracy, and speed are essential where simultaneous competing priorities require effective and efficient communication & multi-tasking to succeed.
  • Ability to understand and follow both standardized and non-standardized procedures and ask questions when unsure.
  • Adherence to all plant safety and security rules, with a focus on recognizing and avoiding hazards.
  • Competence in performing basic math calculations and reading process instructions.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety and good housekeeping practices and actively improving safety performance through feedback.

Accountabilities

  • Have high attention to detail for accurate material selection and providing double checks
  • Completion of assigned training and tasks within time allotted (loading, packaging, etc.)
  • Use problem solving techniques to eliminate waste and errors.
  • Adherence to Bostik, OSHA, and local regulations / policies.
  • Understanding of production and process equipment.
  • Working with teams & within teams to achieve results including safety, customer and financial goals, and cleanliness.
  • Must be able to understand and carry out instructions on standardized or non-standardized requirements, methods, and procedures.

Qualifications / experience required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • High school diploma, equivalent, or a satisfactory work record is required
  • Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
  • Must be able to calculate various measurements using basic math skills.
  • Prior Chemical Operator or Fork Truck experience preferred; additional training will be provided
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position including climbing stairs and ladders, lift 55 pounds, connecting hoses, operating manual valves, wearing FRC and full-face respirator (Clean-shaven)
