Job dimensions

This job exists to manage a broad spectrum of mechanical work, be highly skilled in interpreting diagrams/schematics, utilizing diagnostic equipment, troubleshooting of all mechanical equipment, proper isolation of equipment, and knowledgeable in virtually all mechanical applications and intricacies specific to the Piedmont site. Performs highly diversified mechanical duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety policies and predictive/preventive maintenance processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.

 

Activities

 

Maintenance (80%):

  • Repair, install, modify and service all mechanical equipment
  • Effectively troubleshoot mechanical problems in the field
  • Fabricate by reading prints, developing isometric drawings and following engineering standards
  • Understand, execute, and follow all procedures in the execution of maintenance activities
  • Document maintenance work for governmental and permit compliance
  • Scope and plan jobs
  • Test all equipment worked on for proper operation prior to turnover to production
  • Provide feedback to supervision pertaining to any abnormal equipment observations
  • Use power equipment (power hand tools, grinders, drill press, saws, press)
  • Inspect and repair all buildings and grounds including underground services
  • Perform job layout, follow piping codes, proper material selection, pressure testing, fabrication, threading, bending, installation for pipefitting
  • Perform flagging, proper sling selection/use, developing lifting plans for rigging
  • Perform maintenance on rotating equipment including couplings, alignment, oil change, belts, bearings, conveyor systems
  • Change oil, troubleshoot, installation, replace seals, or rebuild pumps and agitators
  • Perform general mechanical routines and troubleshooting (Use of senses (Visual, Audible, etc.) for deducing problems)
  • Inspect and replace relief devices
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration system

 

Other duties (20%):

  • Maintains a clean work environment
  • Read and understand equipment drawings, manuals, and documentation
  • Operate Lift Equipment (Fork Truck, Boom Lift, Scissor Lift, etc.)
  • Use Database Software to Acquire parts needed for Job
  • Log time and able to describe work done in work order system
  • Execute all tasks necessary as assigned to support plant operations, such tasks may be of an unskilled or skilled nature
  • Read company communications weekly, i.e. production advisories, emails, etc.
  • Complete scheduled periodic training on time and as required
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Context and environment

  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times
  • Follow All Plant Safety Procedures and Policies (LOTO, SWP, etc.)
  • Use proper PPE for job and area including respirators for confined spaces, harnesses for elevated work, and chemical suits
  • Conform to plant permits and certifications (ISO, cGMP, Title V, FDA, RCRA, SWWP)
  • Be on call and work overtime as need to keep plant up and running
  • Work at elevated heights (platforms, scaffolding, ladders and grating)
  • Support the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participate in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Support and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Ensure compliance of regulatory and plant safety and environmental requirements with special emphasis on Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Demonstrate commitment to HES through high visibility and actions.

 

Qualifications / experience required

  • HS diploma and 4+ years of experience in industrial maintenance; chemical manufacturing experience HIGHLY preferred.
  • General mechanical, electrical, welding and fabrication experience.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft office, Email, etc.)
