JOB SUMMARY

Position reports directly to the Operations Manager and provides technical assistance for plant operations. Position requires direct interaction with departmental managers, operators, contractors, and day staff positions to exchange information and ideas directly related to the success of the Clear Lake plant.

 

The Production Engineer is responsible for supporting, assisting, and troubleshooting problems to ensure production performance of all operating units (Acrylic Acid, Glacial Acrylic Acid, Butyl Acrylate, Methyl Acrylate, Incineration, Tank Farm, etc.). The production engineer works alongside the Process Technicians and Unit Technical Advisors to ensure full support of safety and environmental compliance.

The Production Engineer is responsible for validating daily shipping and receiving entries in the Daily Operations

Report.

The production Engineer will assist in ensuring units are run at the prescribed targets to maximize efficiency, reliability, quality, safety, and environmental performance.  While not directly responsible for designing major process changes, the production engineer provides input to the process technology group to assist in brainstorming new process improvement project ideas as well as implementation of projects.

The Production Engineer is also responsible for assessing own strengths and weaknesses; seeking feedback to improve performance; pursue training and developmental opportunities to quickly build knowledge and sharpen technical skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ongoing review of plant process data to maximize operational efficiency and reliability. Continuously

improves process operating discipline, process controls, and maintains process data review tools to improve efficiency (25%)

  • Provide technical assistance and support to Operations during plant turnarounds, emergency operations, and any other time technical assistance is required. This may involve on-call technical assistance coverage on

nights and weekends when needed (25%).

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives as requested (Reactor, Tower, LTO reliability teams, pump seal reliability team, etc.) (10%)
  • Assist unit technical advisors with periodic reviews of procedures and operating limits documentation (5%)
  • Provide support to process technology group for plant improvement projects (5%)
  • Ensure production accounting data are timely and accurate (5%)
  • Ensure that specific goals are developed that correspond with Plant objectives and initiatives (5%)
  • HSE responsibilities such as but not limited to participation in Site Leadership Audits, performing Behavior-Based Safety Observations, participation in Open-ended Line (OEL) audits, Startup Permit

participation and periodic facilitation, Environmental Release Calculations, and Root Cause Investigations (RCl) (5%)

  • Support full compliance of all safety and environmental compliance as it relates to regulatory requirements including OSHA, PSM, RMP and Company Policies and programs (MSM) (5%)
  • Ensure that timely response of technical review is completed for incident investigations and action items developed and implemented (IMPACT) (5%)
  • Identify and attend formal training as needed to further professional development (Six Sigma, Process controls, Process design/ troubleshooting, etc.) (5%)

 

Context and Environment

  • The individual must have, or develop, a sound knowledge of technical aspects of the Clear Lake Plant, and of the business situation as related to the operation of the process.
  • Individual must be able to communicate on multiple levels of organization and manage multiple tasks required by the Plant.
  • Position has limited travel (<5%), Predominately for training and development opportunities.
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g. Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near miss, accident or injury incidents.
  • Understands and supports the Clear Lake Facility Acrylic Monomers HSE2Q Commitment.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED

Minimum Years of Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in a Chemical plant setting preferred, graduating seniors with Arkema Internships can be considered; Arkema Developing Engineer graduate strongly preferred.

Education and Area of Focus

  • BS Chemical Engineering from an accredited University.
