Reporting to the plant manager, the Production Leader is responsible for all functions of operations management related to day-to-day staffing and production issues of a chemical manufacturing facility with 10 operators. The incumbent ensures that all operations management processes are adhering to the site’s requirements outlined in AIMS, which include aspects of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 and Responsible Care.  The NKC site operates 24/7. The Production Leader is a part of the field-based site leadership team and works with leadership and maintenance to enhance operation units at NKC.  This position will need to be available on-call or in person for urgent manners.  Up to 10% travel may be required.

 

Activities may include:

 

Safety, Health, and Environmental (HES) Activities and Responsibilities 

  • Ensures plant, Business Unit (BU), and corporate HES policies and procedures are implemented and enforced to promote Arkema safety culture and advance HES as a core value.
  • Serves as primary focal point for ensuring plant follows OSHA PSM standards.
  • Conduct Root Cause Investigations for all SAFETY, HEALTH, and ENVIRONMENTAL incidents. Manage progress for corrective actions, and document all findings and results using incident tracking databases.
  • Work with local manufacturing team to encourage NKC operational involvement in HES corporate initiatives.
  • Serves as Incident Commander during plant emergencies if Plant Manager and HSE leader are absent.
  • Serves as backup to the plant manager when Plant Manager is absent
  • Supports and participates in HES and loss control programs, such as CARES (behavior based safety), CARES, THA, Starmap, SMART etc.
  • Complies with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness.
  • Member of the AIMS Management Team. Supports all AIMS elements and ensures compliance with corporate and plant Loss Prevention policies.

 

Production Activities and Responsibilities 

  • Supervise and motivate production employees to work safely with maximum productivity and accountability.
  • Schedule overtime as necessary to achieve efficient completion of the production schedule at minimum cost.
  • Maintains time sheet records and ensures that timesheet software is accurate and submitted on time every two weeks.
  • Ensures employees remain up to date on all training requirements. Train operators following incidents or as part of a refresher training program. Assess operator competence following employment and on an ongoing basis.
  • Understands the Union Contracts and ensures adherence to the contract with all plant activities; issues discipline as needed with support of plant manager.
  • Work with local and BU teams to optimize operations and communicate daily production activities to ensure Plant/BU goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and within budget.
  • Work with local maintenance team to plan maintenance activities impacting the production schedule
  • Responsible for ensuring Maintenance KPI's are on track, including but not limited to SAP Work Process Compliance, MI/PM/SCS compliance.
  • Develop basic understanding of all powder coating process technology, equipment, and process control technology utilized at North Kansas City Plant to ensure plant operates in safe and legal manner.
  • Develop, write, and implement new operating procedures; Review and revise existing operating procedures on an annual basis
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with site Procedure Use Policy
  • Facilitate daily shift change meetings to coordinate safety, production, supply chain and maintenance activities.
  • Effectively communicate with logistics, supply chain, and operations team to maintain an evergreen production schedule, provide batch records to operators in a timely fashion, and keep supplies and raw materials in stock
  • Provide primary BACKUP for planning operations and SAP transactions in the absence of the logistics leader.
    • Learn and understand how SAP and recordkeeping activities are completed in real time relative to batch planning, staging, and production confirmation activities
    • Support Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) and Logistic Coordinator to ensure On-Time shipments
  • Other duties as requested

 

Plant Technical Activities and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and provide updates for plant capital expense budget
  • Manages small improvement or capital projects for the production facility.
  • Continuously improve plant OEE performance. Track, report, identify and implement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve cycle times.
  • Monitor and investigate material usage variances (MUVs) and stock adjustments.  Identify opportunities to minimize or eliminate variance when possible.

 

Quality Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Support for (or lead when necessary) Root Cause Investigations for all QUALITY incidents (customer complaints, out of specification batches); manage corrective actions for these using incident tracking databases
  • Review and approve new/changed specifications and ensures implementation of required changes in the plant utilizing Management of Change (eMOC).
  • Work with plant personnel to identify and prioritize issues and improve quality through the use of tracking tools (ATLAS, QUIMEO)
  • Complete trend analysis (Customer Complaints, COPQ, NPS, RFT) to identify quality improvement opportunities.
  • Provides production support to the NKC Plant Chemist to support batch recipe changes, production trials, scale-up activities, and other product development initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate with logistics, supply chain, and operations team to facilitate the introduction of new products or product/process changes from RIG into the production schedule

The successful candidate will have:

  • A BS in Chemical engineering (strongly preferred)
  • Five years' experience in batch or semi-batch process in a manufacturing plant; or minimum eight years in plant/ manufacturing experience
  • Three or more years' supervisory experience, strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of SAP or other ERP system strongly preferred
  • Innovation and problem solving (independently and/or collectively)
  • Strong communication skills for all levels of company
  • Ability to assess and resolve emergencies and develop contingency plans under stressful situations.
  • Ability to self-start and hold self and others accountable
  • Ability and desire to guide and direct others to develop their skills
  • Ability to influence others based on trust and authenticity
