The Process Technician will control, operate, or tend equipment that produces chemicals for industrial or consumer products.  This is a shift position and requires weekend and night hours depending on the shift.    The position is located in a union manufacturing facility with all the inherent risks.  

Responsibilities include operation of kettles, unloading of raw materials, packaging of finished products, preparing and maintaining process records, sampling and quality testing, and other general production activities or any other duties as directed by Production Leader or Site Manager.

 

STAGING MATERIALS - 

  • Operates forklift to load and unload trailers, tank wagons and railcars.
  • Unloads tank wagons of raw materials for use in processing.
  • Operates forklift to move materials within the plant facility.
  • Pre-stages raw materials and packaging per the batch card/slip for efficiency of process to ensure materials are ready.

 

CHARGING TANKS AND KETTLE - 

  • Reads plant specifications to ascertain product, ingredient, formulas, instruction and prescribed modifications of plant procedures.
  • Starts pump and agitators, turns valve, or moves controls of processing equipment to admit, transfer, filter, or mix chemicals, or to drain specified amounts of materials, impurities, or rating agents to or from equipment to prepare or further process materials.
  • Loads specified amounts of chemicals into processing equipment to manufacture a batch.
  • Weighs, measures, counts, or mixes prescribed quantities of materials to manufacture a batch. 

 

MONITORING - 

  • Moves controls to adjust feed and flow through equipment in a specified sequence to maintain system within specified operating conditions.
  • Draws sample of products to test for viscosity, color, OH# and acid value to aid in process adjustments and maintain production standards.
  • Operates or tends auxiliary equipment, such as heaters, scrubbers, filters, to further process materials.
  • Patrols work area to detect leaks and equipment malfunctions and monitor operating conditions.
  • Assists maintenance in areas where needed to ensure efficient processes.
  • Observes safety precautions to prevent fires and explosions.

 

PACKAGING MATERIALS - 

  • Examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Puts materials into bags, sacks and drums to meet order requirements.
  • Removes any materials that do not conform to specifications for re-packaging.

 

Safety - 

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
 
 
The successful candidate will have:
 
  • a high school diploma or equivalent
  • two years manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Some computer experience strongly preferred
  • ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • self motivation and ability to work as part of a team.
