The Plant Engineer, reporting to the plant manager, supports the North Kansas City site in its objectives for Operations Excellence, Loss Control, Sustainability, and continual economic and market improvement through management systems. The North Kansas City site is comprised of 20 +/- operators, maintenance and staff.  The Plant Engineer will be a key player and will be exposed to many different facets of the plant, engineering and the  organization. The position is based in a 24/7 batch chemical plant and may require occasional "on-call" duties. Non-routine travel up to 20% . The  plant is located  with the metropolitan Kansas City area and close to downtown with plenty of leisure time activities and good BBQ .  

 

Essential job duties may include:

 

 

HES Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary plant process safety focal point
  • Confirm NKC plant compliance with relevant internal and external process safety standards including AIMS (Arkema internal), NFPA, PSM, etc.
  • Conduct Root Cause Investigations for all SAFETY, HEALTH, and ENVIRONMENTAL incidents. Manage progress for corrective actions, and document all findings and results using incident tracking databases.
  • Supports and participates in HES and loss control programs, such as CARES (behavior based safety), Safestart, THA, Starmap, SMART etc.
  • Participate as a technical resource in all process hazard analysis and management of change review teams.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of site process safety information including technical calculations, drawings and diagrams, and technical reports

 

Plant Technical Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and track site CAPEX budget
  • Provide technical support and input in development of plant 5 year CAPEX plan
  • Prepare capital project scopes and schedules, including cost estimates to support the production needs of the Plant. Prepare bid documents and review contractors to ensure they meet or exceed scope requirements
  • Continuously improve plant OEE performance.  Track, report, identify and implement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve cycle times.
  • Monitor and investigate material usage variances (MUVs) and stock adjustments.  Identify opportunities to minimize or eliminate variance when possible.

Mechanical Integrity (MI) Responsibilities:

  • Work with Arkema corporate resources to ensure compliance with Arkema Mechanical Integrity Standard and applicable external standards (API, ASME, etc.)
  • Work with site maintenance team resources to ensure that information in SAP is accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain MI records in electronic document management system.  Provide recommendations for improvements to system based to improve MI usability.

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • a BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Two plus years experience in batch or semi-batch process in a manufacturing plant strongly preferred.
  • AutoCAD, PLC and DCS control and production historian experience strongly preferred.
  • innovation and problem solving skills both independently and collectively.
  • organizational and planning skills coupled with a strong communications
  • abilities to assess and resolve emergencies and develop contingency plans under pressure
  • skill to act professionally and calmly at all times, and
  • ability to influence others without formal authority.
