Quality Engineer

Situation in organisation 

Reports to Quality manager, no direct reports

Job dimensions
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to drive improvement and meet key site quality objectives.
  • Supports Middleton plant and champion site operational excellence and continuous improvement processes.
  • Supports Middleton quality team to ensure customer receives quality product and their needs are met.
  • Participates in key departments continuous improvement teams.
Activities
  • Practice and Reinforce Environmental, Health, and Safety in all activities
  • Support  management and proper orientation of Document Control System, Corrective Actions, Non-conforming Materials and other Quality systems
  • Participates and leads Kaizen Events, Project Management, and Strategic Development Initiatives with progress toward leadership role.
  • Support continuous improvement teams in various departments in the plant and assist in driving initiatives to completion
  • Monitor progress toward KPIs with trend analysis and statistical analysis of product performance.  Utilizes data analysis to identify gaps and prioritize opportunities.
  • Supports and leads RCA on the floor, using techniques such as FMEA, Is/Is not, 5 why, Fishbone diagrams, pareto, etc. to facilitate a culture where getting to the root cause is the norm
  • Ensure that corrective and preventative actions are properly defined, implemented and verified.
  • Support plant to achieve KPIs through onsite process improvements and employee development
  • Participate as a part of internal audit team for Middleton facility to support AS9100 registration
  • Support Quality Control lab as back up as necessary and in sustainment of QC equipment.
  • Partner with quality manager and continuous improvement specialist to implement key quality initiatives and work processes.
Context and environment
  • Capable of delivering results in management  meetings, on MFG floor, and in Training rooms
  • Must be comfortable and capable of interacting with CEO thru Operators on the floor
  • Ability to identify, assess, prioritize, and manage Risk
  • Ability to facilitate conflict and rapidly hammer out agreements

 

Accountabilities

  • Deliver COPQ savings and execute projects to achieve site quality goals.
  • Assist Leaders and Managers with improvement initiatives through effective data analysis and engagement on the shop floor.
  • Educate, facilitate, and support the organization in implementation of a Continuous Improvement Culture (CI) that has a never ending focus on improving business results

Qualifications / experience required

  • Strong leader skills with manufacturing experience, with minimum BS in Engineering (chemical or mechanical).   Coatings and/or extrusion experience is a plus.
  • Strong Project Leadership skills and history of successful completion of large, complex, urgent, and cross function initiatives
  • Solid knowledge of statistics (control charting, SPC, Cpk, Cp, St. Dev, etc)
  • Professional level presentation skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal 1 on 1 or group); able to influence  change from operators to executive level
