Job Summary
Reports to the Maintenance Manager and supports the operation of the Memphis facility, including evaluation and implementation of mechanical changes, asset effectiveness, asset reliability and Turnaround activities.
This role provides general engineering support for the entire site operation, with liaison to the Maintenance Dept..
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Asset Utilization (20%)
- Own the Reliability assessment of Asset Utilization/Operational Asset Utilization data. Analyze production losses and develop strategies for optimization along with Production/Process Engineer, Lead Plant Reliability Team.
- Support the Operations Dept. in troubleshooting existing process equipment. Lead cross functional teams in root cause analysis and problem solving.
Mechanical Reliability (60%)
- Apply principles of flow, heat transfer, HVAC, civil/structure, materials science, welding, piping, pressure relief, rotating machinery, combustion systems, insulation, coatings, basic E&I, etc. to process and equipment design, at conceptual and detail levels.
- Support Maintenance Dept. with non-routine or multi-craft equipment repairs along functional topics noted above. Coordinate rotating machinery vibration analysis and similar predictive maintenance efforts. Present data-driven equipment maintenance recommendations to the Maintenance Department.
- Serve as plant contact point in discussions with craftsmen or inspectors certified to industry standards (e.g. API, ASME) for welding, pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping, and relief devices.
- Generate, maintain, and update plant Critical Equipment list and reliability strategy.
- Coordinate with QA/QC efforts as PSM element co-champion for Mechanical Integrity. Coordinate piping and equipment inspections, including scheduling and preparation by Operations, contractor field direction and cost control, documentation of data, analysis of results, and recommendations.
- Maintain Piping Standards and revise as necessary.
- Coordinate inspection by regulatory agency and operating certificate renewal for pressure vessels.
- Aid the sites AIMS programs for 6.2 and 6.3, Mechanical Integrity program and Maintenance program.
- Vibration Analysis
Business/Customer Focus (10%)
- Assist with capital improvement projects of primarily mechanical or machinery scope, including MOC requirements, design, estimating, procurement, construction, cost control, and startup. Provide mechanical resources as needed for projects managed by others, and facilitate SAP maintenance equipment/BOM/spare parts updates.
- Prepare technical and business reports and presentations.
- Prepare training materials, or arrange for selected trainers, for mechanics at the site in conjunction with identified needs ( e.g. welding, rotating equipment).
- Read company communications weekly, i.e. production advisories, emails, etc.
- Complete scheduled periodic training on time and as required.
Turnaround Planning/ Execution (10%)
- Assist with plant Turnaround planning and scheduling working closely with Plant Process/Production Engineer, Maintenance Scheduler and Operations to ensure scope and resources.
Minimum Qualifications and Education Required
- 1-3 years of experience in Operations, Maintenance or Engineering in chemical plants.
- BS degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field with focus on activities noted above
- Knowledge of pumps, blowers, compressors, agitators, and other rotating equipment.
- Clear written and verbal communication, interpersonal and team building, strong leadership, initiative, organization, problem solving and analytical ability
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Computer skills including Microsoft office required. Working knowledge of SAP desirable.
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
- The job requires the ability to easily move through a chemical process requiring the use of stairs, ladders, and personal protective equipment. This jobholder is independently responsible for ensuring safe, environmentally sound production of material while keeping personnel safety a top priority.
- This position is situated in a specialty chemical manufacturing facility and in which the chemical processes are continuous and contain highly hazardous chemicals.
- Minimum travel required.
