The Project Engineer reports to the Automation and Engineering Manager. No direct reports.



  • Provide project management skills, services and leadership on large, complex capital and expense projects, Capital Projects and Construction at the Memphis site.
  • There is strong involvement and interfacing with government agencies and neighboring communities, especially in terms of environmental and safety issues.


Key Activities and responsibilities


Project Management (100%)

  • Manage projects up to $2 million or more
  • Handles multiple projects concurrently
  • Report monthly on captital expenditures
  • Strong involvement and influence in project development and project organization
  • Heavy strategic planning component in position
  • Predicts and avoids problems before they impact project performance
  • Support TAR/shutdown and start-ups as part of the engineering team
  • Sets project goals and objectives
  • Establishes appropriate action/implementation plans
  • Selects, directs, coordinates and manages vendors and subcontractors
  • Reviews and approves designs, estimates and plans
  • Manages project resources:  capital, time, manpower
  • Functionally leads Arkema team members and junior engineers
  • Ensure that projects meet or exceed all corporate expectations, guidelines, and procedural criteria. 
  • Identify, assess, and implement project improvement alternatives and projects. 
  • Responsible for management of larger, more complicated projects, with costs up to $2 million or more
  • Read company communications weekly, i.e. production advisories, emails, etc.
  • Complete scheduled periodic training on time and as required


Context and environment

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Minimum travel required
  • Works in a chemical environment


Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • Position requires a B.S. in Engineering from an accredited College/University
  • Demonstrated understanding of mathematics and the sciences, including Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, Chemistry, Physics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Gas Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, etc.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic personal computer skills, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and database software. 
  • 5-8 years of project engineering/management experience
  • Successfully managed at least one EPCM/EPC project greater than $2 million
  • Experience working with engineering contractors/consultants through all phases of a project; and basic knowledge and understanding of chemical process industry and Arkema’s strategic position in business. 
  • Basic knowledge of project related design and construction field, including vessel design, piping, instrument/electrical, civil/structural, process and environmental
  • CAD system understanding
  • Understanding and experience with cost and schedule software

  • High level of detail and accuracy required.
  • Function self-sufficiently, with little direction or supervision on project engineering/management activities. 
  • Position requires strong understanding of the technical aspects of process and project development and execution, as well as ability to understand and satisfy internal customers' needs/requirements
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate project activities
  • Ability to work with and influence resources external to Arkema
  • Strong, competent negotiating skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills/abilities
