Key Responsibilities 1/2

Safety Management
•    Plans reviews and implements safety policies and procedures as directed by Corporate and in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
•    Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, safety equipment and other materials.
•    Provides information and direction relating to the purchase of safety equipment and PPE.
•    Represents Bostik on community or industry safety groups and programs.
•    Integrate the global health and safety management practices.
•    Implementation of health and safety systems and processes.
•    Provide strategic advice on current and emerging OH&S issues.
•    Develop, implement and monitor risk and safety management plans for each site.
•    Implement and monitor the behavioural safety management programs.
•    Align Health and safety accountabilities with manufacturing line management.
•    Management of health and safety issues arising from the safety committee.
•    Enhancement of procedures, guidelines and direction of the safety committee.
•    Manage and assist managers with return to work plans for staff under workers compensation.

Incident Management
•    Inspects and audits Bostik facilities and detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
•    Co-Ordinates the investigation of accidents and injuries and co-operates in the preparation of material and evidence for Bostik to use in hearing, lawsuits, and insurance investigations and the like.
•    Review and analyse trends and make recommendations on the management of emerging issues.

Health Safety & Environment
•    Set and implement health safety and environment standards and controls for all sites.
•    Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all relevant health safety and environmental legislation ensuring management and staff are kept informed of any relevant changes to these requirements.
•    Manage contracts associated with health safety and environment activities for all Bostik sites.
•    Manage assessment and identification of environmental risks.
•    Manage health safety and environment staff.

Key Responsibilities 2/2

Environment Management & Support
•    Facilitate the implementation of environmental management system and initiatives for all Bostik sites and ensure the programs ongoing development and continuous improvement.
•    Manage the EMS at Thomastown to a standard where it could be externally accredited to ISO14001.
•    Manage the investigation and reporting on all environmental incidents and facilitate the implementation of environmental corrective actions.
•    Implement and monitor environment measures and objectives, targets and action/business plans.
•    Facilitate employee development programs to ensure they are adequately trained, supported and assisted with the implementation of environment related work practices.
•    Ensure all environmental regulatory and or other external & internal reports are submitted as required.
•    Act as a resource for managers, supervisors and team leaders on compliance with applicable legislation and requirements, and management of any environment risks and controls.
•    Ensure that the legislative information is continuously disseminated clearly and concisely throughout the company and environment policies, procedures and work instructions are current and regularly updated to reflect compliance requirements.

Reporting

•    Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
•    Prepares accident statistics and analyse the results of the causes for use by Bostik Australia and New Zealand, France and outside agencies.
•    Weekly and monthly reporting required for trend analysis.

Operational Support
•    Support Operational management teams on an as required basis.
•    Support Capex projects both from an HSE perspective but also lead projects on a as required basis.
•    Other duties as directed.

Required Profile

•    Background in manufacturing / chemicals / paint or like industry preferred
•    Minimum 5 years OH&S work experience
•    Tertiary qualifications in OH&S or relevant field​​​​​​
•    A qualification in occupational health and safety is typically required to become a Work Health and Safety Officer. A formal OHS certification is a likewise strongly preferred. 
    1. Completed Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419), Diploma of Work Health and Safety (BSB51319) or Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety.
    2. Completed additional certificates and licences as required ie a First Aid Certificate and Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card). 
    3. Substantial experience in an OHS role in a chemical lab industry. Preferred strong WorkSafe audit experience as well. 
    4. Certification with the Australian Institute of Health and Safety.
•    Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
•    Proven experience with Worksafe and Government authorities
•    Demonstrated management skills
•    Works independently with minimal supervision and direction
•    Proven project management and problem solving skills
•    Proven numerical and computational skills
