This position reports directly to the Health, Environmental and Safety (HES) Manager.


The Health, Environmental and Safety (HES) Specialist supports the safety and environmental processes at the Louisville plant. This position also coordinates training and activities to improve plant performance.


60% - HES support:
- Participate in management of change (MOC), process hazard analysis (PHA) and pre start-up safety review (PSSR) meetings.
- Participate in job safety analyses (JSAs) and input results into database.
- Participate in root cause investigations for plant incidents or events.
- Ensure compliance with HES requirements and effective implementation of the various global HES management systems, work processes and data management systems.
- Support industrial hygiene program.
- Provide a high level of communication from the business on all HES related matters.
- Inspect work areas for potential losses, near misses and report hazards to the area direct supervisor.
- Review and maintain all HES records, procedures and work instructions to ensure safety and compliance.
- Maintain all environmental records and regularly report HES data and performance to local and other stakeholders.
- Assist with emergency response by maintaining the readiness and capabilities of the plant’s plan. Schedule emergency drills as directed.
- Schedule and track occupational physicals for operations personnel.
- Maintain PPE supplies and implement new PPE as required by regulation and as needed for improved safety.
- Maintain safety data sheets (SDS).
- Obtain semi-annual visible emissions certification. Perform and report readings as required.

30% - Training coordination:
- Administer training programs and activities to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations and corporate standards.
- Serve as plant administrator for learning management system.
- Conduct periodic training system assessments and audits to ensure that appropriate training is assigned and completed by all site personnel. Provide training status reports.
- Collaborate with plant personnel to schedule new employee training, instructor led training events and regular safety meetings.
- Manage plant training documents by reviewing and updating materials to improve training effectiveness.
- Facilitate the operator certification process by working with operations personnel to improve structure and content requirements for operator certification or recertification training.
- Assist with delivering classroom and field training.
- Research and submit state training grants.

10% - Administrative duties:
- Conduct contractor and visitor indoctrinations.
- Management of contractors: security personnel, janitorial services, pest control, employee uniforms, exterior plant property and other safety services and supplies.
- Participate in loss control and responsible care management review, leadership, approval and delegation as prescribed by leadership.
- All other duties as assigned.


- This position is based in Louisville, KY.
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety,
SafeStart, etc.).
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near miss, accident or injury incidents.


- Bachelor’s degree in health, safety, environmental disciplines or equivalent certifications preferred.
- 3-5 years prior work experience in health and safety; preferably in the chemical manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience in occupational health and/or emergency medical response required.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required.
- Working knowledge of the following federal health and safety regulations preferred.
