The Sr. Lead Process Engineer, reporting to the Coating Solutions Process Technology and Engineering Manager, provides process technology expertise to Business, R&D/Recipe Industrialization and Manufacturing. This may include global manufacturing status and technologies, product quality information, new product scale-ups, capital projects, competitive intelligence, etc. The position performs process engineering work in the exploration, evaluation, development and commercialization of process/operation improvements and new technologies of strategic importance . The Engineer may support any one of the Coating Solutions plants regionally or internationally depending upon area of expertise. This position supports and participates in HES policies and activities. Possible hybrid or remote location with easy access to one of our physical locations. 20% travel is expected.
Process Technology Development and Improvement :
• Provides technical support in the scale-up and commercialization of new products, including developing new process technologies, if needed.
• Leverages or develops appropriate engineering tools and programs to support process improvement, technology development, and engineering design.
• Promotes strong working relationship with Business R&D/RI and plants in all regions of Coating Solutions
• Facilitates and promotes cross functional communication and cooperation; Participates in or leads process improvement team initiatives.
• Identifies and works with specialty technical resources to support activities when needed.
• Mentors and provides technical and professional development to less senior engineer and provides new technology information to plant engineers.
Project Leadership and Support :
• Identifies opportunities for process improvements including variable cost reduction, productivity, process safety and reliability, waste reduction, product quality, and commercialization of new products.
• Develops technical options, solutions and prepares engineering and technical packages
• Leads early-stage capital process for projects and may support projects through implementation
• Influences business unit’s technical direction and helps to set project and team priorities.
• Measures, evaluates, and communicates progress and results; reprioritizes as appropriate.
Process Safety:
• Provides support, technical expertise for process safety activities.
• Participates and/or lead Process Hazard Analysis, Root Cause Investigations, Process Relief Design, etc.
• Shares learnings with team to share outcome and improvement opportunities with Segment members.
The successful candidate will have:
• A degree in chemical or mechanical engineering is required.
• 8+ years chemical industrial experience in process, production, and/or project engineering.
• 8+ years plant process or production engineering strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of theory and principal and proven ability to apply same is required.
• Well versed in the laws and rules governing the design and implementation of solutions regarding chemical processes; Including: environmental compliance, process, hazards techniques, engineering standards, OSHA requirements, PSM, RAGAGEP,etc.
• Experience in batch or semi-batch process strongly preferred
• Intermediate to advanced skills in analyzing processes such as reactor design, reaction kinetics, agitation/mixing, heat transfer, separations, drying, powder processing & handling, etc.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in modeling chemical processes, such as statistics, process simulation thermodynamics, etc.
• Skilled in sizing of pressure relief equipment
• Proven ability in process development, scale-up, Aspen (or similar) simulation, and design.
• Operational excellence / Six Sigma Greenbelt / LEAN certification (and implementation experience) preferred.
• Working knowledge of accounting systems in SAP is a plus
• Experience leading medium-sized capital projects (<$2M) using stage gate (or similar) process
• Demonstrated leadership in improving HES compliance and performance.
• Self-motivation with ability to identify and recommend technical opportunities for value and growth and to arrive at solutions independently.
