Senior Staff Technician Job

SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION:
Position reports to R&D Manager. Position is supervised by Lead Engineer. No personnel report to this position
JOB DIMENSIONS:
This position is responsible for conducting experimental studies, process development and safe operation of small scale manufacturing equipment to support Arkema’s Fluorochemical R&D programs.
This position requires hands on laboratory work involving the use of high hazard materials and process conditions.
Work is to be performed in accordance with safe laboratory practices and with active participation in Arkema’s safety initiatives and programs.
ACTIVITIES:
-Embraces Arkema safety culture; actively participates in company safety programs; ensures safe laboratory operations; and utilizes all relevant safety processes and procedures; participates in process and hazard analyses
-Operates in strict compliance with the company code of conduct
-Responsible for safely constructing and operating gas and liquid phase processes at high temperatures and pressures
-Responsible for performing general maintenance and preventive maintenance of lab equipment as required
-Multitasks effectively and efficiently organizes work
-Generates, evaluates, and interprets data with supervision
-Maintains laboratory notebooks and appropriate records
-Troubleshoots problems and proposes solutions
-Writes technical reports and communicates results to supervisor
-Works collaboratively with the R&D team to solve problems
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT:
- This position is located at Arkema's North American R&D Center in King of Prussia, PA. The position interacts predominantly with Fluorochemicals R&D, Process Technology, Pilot Plant, Manufacturing and Commercial staff with occasional interactions with colleagues from other business units and regions.
- This position supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements; participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc; and supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident, or injury incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Associates degree in technology field + 5 years experience, or high school education + 10 years experience in a technical field
- Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of collaboration, networking, and teamwork
- Good organizational skills, proficiency in data analysis, and clear technical writing
- Experience with chemical process operation
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform equipment maintenance
- Experience with synthesis and characterization techniques preferred
- Experience of safely handling hazardous gases, liquids, and solids strongly preferred
- Mechanical skills including, pipe fitting, tube bending, compression fittings (Swagelok), electrical wiring strongly preferred
- Proficiency with computer software (Process Control, GC, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, and graphical analysis)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
