Principal Process Engineer, is a member of the Fluorochemical BU Process Technology organization. This role is located in King of Prussia and directly reporting to Global Process Technology Manager, Fluorochemicals.  Matrix reporting to corporate technology, administratively reporting to the Director of Process Engineering and Process Technology. This role requires 50% presence in Aurora NC and 50% presence at King of Prussia with occasional international travel. It has no direct reports.


Job expectations:

- Improve the AHF process design and operation.

- Subject Matter Expert for AHF manufacturing processes.

- Develop and execute AHF projects and programs in the Americas.

- Develop process research program input.

- Process technology, simulation and process engineering expert.



Support the Aurora plant

  • Improve process safety: check process safety impact of plant modifications, participate in PHA updates, process safety event root cause analysis, safety action plans, and definition and implementation of safety critical safeguards.
  • Coordinate process tests with the Aurora plant and provide oversight.    
  • Provide process input to the operations team to improve the plant reliability. 
  • Assist operations during operations, startup, deviations and turnaround support.
  • Support transportation and logistics safety improvements.
  • Analyze yields deviations on a monthly basis; propose action plans to improve.


Process Development

  • Lead HF process technology development and subsequent front end process engineering.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and propose ideas to expand capacity of existing unit.
  • Study and define product quality improvements.
  • Support potential future project to implement a large capacity expansion.
  • Provide input to HF pilot studies and lab work.
  • Prepare physical property models and own the basic data
  • Develop and own the process technology manual


Support Process Engineering

  • Conduct basic engineering work and process analysis for improvement ideas
  • Utilize process modeling software such as Aspen and interpret data to generate solutions.
  • Prepare PFD’s, P&ID’s, heat and material balances, etc.
  • Use knowledge of safety regulations and environmental issues, and incorporate them into engineering work.



Nutrien is the Aurora plant owner and as such bears final responsibilities for the plant operations. The process engineer shall therefore act only as a consultant to operations and work as a collaborator for process engineering and projects.

  • Will require domestic and occasional international travel (50%). 
  • Supports the Arkema and Nutrien site HES policies and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by Arkema and Nutrien.
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.



  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Higher degree candidates (MS ChE/PHD) as well as higher experience level candidates will be able to provide higher value in this role. 
  • More than 14 years industrial experience in multiple process engineering/technology roles and/or businesses is required.
  • Additional certifications, such as lean six sigma are preferred. 
  • Prior expertise in process modeling will lead to earlier and higher contributions
  • Prior Fluorogas experience or adjacent technologies will lead to earlier and higher contributions.

  • Expert understanding of technology, unit operations, and control technology at multiple sites and unit operations within site. Able to apply expertise with independence across business units.  Contributes to new internal methods and tools.
  • Recognized technology or engineering expert. Provides cross business unit/departmental support.  Expertise in a specific engineering or technology discipline.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing solutions to close compliance items. Conducts effective cause analysis and gap closure.
  • PHA leader or facilitator.  SME for safety critical safeguard calculations. Good understanding of PSM and RMP overall program.
  • Major contributor to capital projects with contribution of $100k's. Well-versed in stage gate and coaches less experienced engineers to use the methodology. 
  • Focal point for issue resolution by business unit or functional management.  Provides technical leadership and actively participates in or leads corporate initiatives.  Messaging, presentations and written reporting to business unit president.
  • Has internal and external networks. (e.g., AICHE, CCPS, etc.). Mentors less experienced engineers outside of business unit.  Creates links with technical centers in other geographies
  • Leads process specific intellectual property.
  • Proficient in completion of CSR (ESG) deliverables for projects and plant support programs.  Expert in climate change technologies.
  • Expertise in multiple manufacturing digital tools.  Mentors others. Brings new digital tools in industry in house.
  • Expertise in application of multiple manufacturing digital tools, simulation, control and databases.  
  • Leads digital portfolio across multiple sites or business units.
