This Position reports to the Materials Testing Lab Coordinator, which reports to the Kynar Industrial R&D Manager. This position is responsible for supporting materials testing for key development programs and technical service activities for the Kynarâ polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) Industrial group.  Prioritization of work to be completed will come from the Materials Testing Lab Coordinator

 

The incumbent will focus on a variety of techniques to test the properties of materials, including mechanical strength, rheology, chemical resistance, optics, weathering, etc…. They will plan and conduct materials testing programs, and perform data analysis in a timely manner. They will assist in developing new testing methods and capabilities

 

The position will become the owner of multiple pieces of testing equipment, with responsibility for maintenance and training of new operators

 

Key activities

 

70% Materials Testing: Conduct materials testing in support of key development programs and technical service efforts. Follow proper testing standards and ensure proper equipment set up. Perform routine testing in accordance with ASTM, ISO and other procedures. Accurately document all observations, and propose solutions to issues encountered with testing equipment and methods. With assistance, develop new testing methods and equipment capabilities. Coordinate testing with Arkema’s analytical group as needed

 

20% Data Collection and Reporting:  Generate, organize, and document quality data in electronic lab notebook. Enter data in requested format. Complete data analysis and simple reports with the support of the Materials Testing Lab Coordinator

 

10% Safety and Equipment Ownership: Follow all Arkema safety protocols, and actively participate in safety initiatives. Maintain a safe and orderly work environment. Become the owner of several pieces of testing equipment, including responsibility for maintaining the equipment and training operators

 

 

Required qualifications

 

2-5 years of applicable experience in materials characterization or processing

 

Hands-on experience with materials testing preferred

 

Good math skills and proficiency with excel for calculations and graphing

 

Proficiency with computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)

 

Hands on orientation to conduct experiments, maintain equipment
