Arkema based out of King of Prussia, PA is hiring for a Manufacturing Engineer to provide engineering and operations support for tolling activities within Business Unit product lines in the region. This position reports directly to the Regional HPP Manufacturing, Tolling and Technology Manager and is based out of KOP, PA. This position interacts most closely with other professionals in Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering, internal and external to the organization. This position requires travel to the various toller sites, approximately 30-40% of the time.

 

More specifically, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for assuring Arkema quality and operational standards are being met at the various tollers.  This position we also be responsible for finding, vetting and scale up of new operations at tollers where applicable. Technical support as needed, to tollers (both internally and externally), as well as providing engineering support of the Kepstan Descent project phase II. Process expertise requires significant interaction with pilot plant, R&D and plant personnel, consultants, tollers, etc. developing improvement opportunities. Works independently; receives broad direction and determines task list for work completion, and prepares timing.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • Provide engineering expertise to tollers across the HPP BU to improve their performance in Quality, Safety, and Productivity yields. Identify and ensure implementation of modifications as needed to improve performance where possible. Track results. (40%).
  • Providing engineering expertise for the safe and efficient scale-up of products at tolling manufacturers including new and existing High Performance Polymers products. (25%)
    • Responsible for the transfer of complete technical package which would include operating procedures; raw materials and ensuring no permitting issues at the toll site; process equipment required; quality control requirements which includes new test methods and round robin testing if needed; Material Safety Data Sheets; Personnel Protective Equipment required; safety review of relief systems to ensure they are adequate; participate in the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Pre-start-up safety review (PSSR).
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in tolling and supply chain teams to ensure alignment on quality and production/yield at the various tolling sites (10%)
  • Responsible to be the technical contact for all tolling projects providing troubleshooting expertise in processing issues, raw material issues, and any other upset conditions. (10%)
  • Other tolling responsibilities, including but not limited to the following: (15%)
    • Participate in first trial batches to ensure project runs smoothly and make recommendations for improvements if needed.
    • Provide or coordinate training on HPP supplied equipment if needed
    • Participate in determining root causes and implementing corrective action for customer complaints for tolled products
    • Lead the grant funded Kepstan Descent project Phase II and oversee phase I operations.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•     This position requires a minimum of a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering degree

•     7-10 years relevant experience in manufacturing or 5-7 years for an internal candidate. 

•     Working knowledge of process-related fields, such as piping, instrumentation, fixed & rotating equipment, etc. 

•     In-depth understanding of environmental, OSHA, PSM regulations, and technical documentation & control requirements. 

•     Familiarity with industry codes and standards.
