JOB TITLE: Lead/Senior Composites Engineer
This position is responsible for technical efforts supporting the growth of the Elium® liquid thermoplastic composites business in the US, Canada, and Mexico through customer technical support, application development, and innovative product development.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guides customers in how to manipulate the Elium resin materials and successfully fabricate composite parts.
- Suggest and demonstrate the best ways for customers to use the product(s) in their equipment.
- Adapt small scale developed recommendations to account for different customer approaches for their applications.
- Leads or collaborates on technical application developments at customers, including understanding application specifications, identifying and confirming the adequacy of Elium materials performance properties, running trials together with customers and in concert with business team.
- Partners with the R&D team to verify results, and suggests compositional and processing improvements to meet customer requirements. Develops new test methods as needed to simulate customer testing. Collects and analyzes data to drive decisions on new formulations and subsequent experiments.
- Promotes Elium® Products at customers. Provides internal/external documentation support as needed. Troubleshoots the customers’ processes and adjusts them to use Arkema’s product offerings. Exchanges information with the global team, and represent Arkema at trade shows.
- Travel – up to 60%
- Regular working visits to Arkema’s King of Prussia R&D center – 15%
REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree with > 10 years experience or Master’s degree with > 8y experience in composite manufacturing, including various processes, such as Infusion, L-RTM, Pultrusion, Filament Winding, etc.
- Requires experience with composite part fabrication; e.g., prepreg layup, vacuum bagging, trimming, drilling, surface preparation, structural bonding, and/or ATP/AFP, etc.
- Experience in application development; e.g., composite part design, dimensioning, and test proofing appreciated
- Expertise in chemistry, polymer, or composites materials chemistry, characterization, applications, testing, and/or processing, is a plus.
