Lead Central Process Engineer Job

Situation in organization     

Member of the Central Process Technology organization, supporting all processes. 

Located in King of Prussia and reporting to the Project Development Manager as part of corporate technology.  

 

Job dimensions    

  • Develop and execute projects and programs across the BUs.
  • Specify and develop process technology for new process design and plant improvements.
  • Support the business, manufacturing plants and R&D.
  • Subject Matter Expert for one or more areas of technology.
  • Simulation and/or unit operation process expert.
  • Initial assignment Arkema EPC liaison for project Goldenrod.     

 

Key Activities and responsibilities

Standard activities during and on completion of project Goldenrod.  

Support process conceptual studies. 25%

 -Interface with global R&D leading to piloting and other scale up activities, process technology development and subsequent process engineering.

 -Run pilot studies at Arkema’s facility or at vendors.

 -Conduct basic engineering work and process analysis on complex plant unit operations.

 -Study process alternatives and develop preliminary economics analysis.

 -Utilize process modeling software such as Aspen and interpret data to generate solutions.

 

Prepare process engineering packages. 50%

 -Prepare PFD’s, P&ID’s, heat and material balances, etc.

 -Prepare equipment lists, specification sheets, etc. for assigned projects.

 -Use knowledge of safety regulations and environmental issues, and incorporate them into engineering work.

 -Participate and lead Hazard Reviews. Lead Hazop action closure.

 

Support plants 25%

-Coordinate process tests with plants and provide oversight.       

-Develop and lead small capital projects and provides process support to larger capital projects.

-Support operations. Give direction to hourly workers and hold accountable for results.

-Assist operations as needed during deviations; use analysis skills for troubleshooting, turnaround support, etc.

-Will assume the role of team leader or subject matter expert as needed and may establish priorities for employees or teams.

 

Initial assignment Arkema representative at project Goldenrod EPC. Other duties will be assigned as time allows. 

Represent Arkema at EPC office for project Goldenrod as main project liaison.

Answer EPC questions, consulting with Arkema team as needed and leading responses.

Make technical decisions at EPC on behalf of Arkema.

Approve design output from EPC, including but not limited to:

-PFD and material balance

-PID

-Equipment lists and specifications

-Process and safety device calculations

Take part in design reviews

Take part in HAZOP and own the translation of HAZOP items into design closure, including approval and development of SRS and interlock lists.

Support development of control strategy.

Perform own design work as required.

 

Context and environment

Will require domestic and occasional international travel (50%). 

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc(e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

 

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Higher degree candidates (MS ChE) as well as higher experience level candidates will be able to provide higher value in this role. 
  • Additional certifications, such as lean six sigma are preferred. 
  • More than 5 years industrial experience in multiple process engineering/technology roles and/or businesses is required.
  • Experience in supporting occupational safety activities at the site is preferred.

  • Effectively organize and plan work.

  • Has demonstrated a high level of theoretical and practical engineering understanding and track record of successfully solving problems and meeting deadlines. Solutions and projects are expected to work reliably.
  • Well versed in the laws and rules governing the design and implementation of solutions regarding chemical processes, including but not limited to federal laws regarding environmental compliance issues, process hazards techniques, engineering standards, OSHA requirements, PSM, etc. 
  • Process analysis, alternatives analysis and preliminary economics analysis.
  • Experience working with engineering contractors.
  • Process engineering tools and modeling software.
  • Prepare strong reports and proposals and ability to present technical work to management.
  • Knowledge and ability to incorporate CSR, waste, water and energy minimization and control into projects.  
  • Ability to assume the role of team leader as needed.
  • Consistently meets deadlines, and holds others accountable for doing so as well
  • Shares time and talent to assist others in accomplishing their goals. 
  • Removes barriers, for self and possibly for other employees, in project work
  • Maintains a network of contacts that can provide expertise and support. Contacts may include employees in other divisions or outside organizations
