Arkema seeks a dynamic, strategic and transformational leader to join us as Deputy Technology Officer, based in our King of Prussia, PA headquarters.  

  • This role reports functionally to the Arkema Group Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) (France) along with 5 global service line leaders, as well as locally to the CIO Arkema Americas, along with 4 other Directors, 2 Managers and 1 administrative professional. 
  • This role is responsible for Infrastructure Americas team include a group 20 IT professionals: 3 Managers and 17 staff at various responsibility and skill levels.  Also is responsible for leadership of vendors and contractors engaged for staff augmentation or project execution.
  • This role will evolve as a global service line leader in the coming year, including responsibility of global functional reports and their teams within this service line.


JOB DIMENSIONS

The position partners with the Global CTO and peers – e.g. other Global Service Line Leaders (Network, Cloud and Hosting, Digital Workplace, Operations…..) - to define and adapt the global IT infrastructure strategy (co-construction) and to ensure its seamless execution.

  • Arkema’s IT Organization (ITeam) is global.  A standard infrastructure exists around the world.  This role is an integral part of the global model and contributes as such. 
  • The role will direct a global service line - Leads and or aligns global initiatives and global-regional coordination.
  • For the Americas (AMAS) – ensures AMAS region aligns with worldwide objectives, standards, and practices.  AMAS refers to the entire region of the Americas (North and South America).
  • Arkema considers digital transformation as a cornerstone of its business strategy.  Arkema is engaged in a cloud first strategy, SaaS, IaaS, PaaS.  This role is a key contributor to evolving technology and organization in line with this strategy.   
  • Globally the position will head one of Arkema’s global infrastructure service lines, which delivers services to 19,000 employees at 200+sites around the world, supporting $8B in sales.  The Global Service Line Leader is charged with related technology strategy and directional roadmap as well as leadership in execution.   
  • In the Americas the position is responsible for infrastructure technology assets and activities for 12 business units at 60+ sites incorporating $3 Billion in sales.  Other relevant sizing in AMAS:
    • 3 Regional data centers, 450+ Servers
    • 50+ Third party warehouses
    • 24*7*365 mission critical support
    • 3,500+ PCs
    • 750+ Smart phone users, 30+ Site company standard voice systems (PBXs)
    • 4-8 significant infrastructure projects, including the rollouts of new technologies, upgrades of existing technologies, and site infrastructure upgrades and advancements
  • This position has additional IT architectural and operational responsibilities for Central and South America working directly with the respective Regional Mangers to ensure conformance to global iTeam standards, policies, and procedures.


KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Global Service Line Leader – 10% (grows to 40 to 45% after 1 year)

Defines the roadmap for the worldwide service line in alignment with global technology strategy, including digital transformation, user experience, cyber security and cost optimization.  Ensure integrity and protection of production environments. Execute changes and enhancements to address lifecycle.

Delivers Infrastructure Projects

  • Lead Global Initiatives – Define business case, align with procurement strategy, develop evaluation criteria, provisional cost estimates, select solutions, and partners. Define project organization & methodology (including transition Build-to-Run) launch and sponsor projects.
  • Manage architecture demands including application technical upgrades - understand needs, analyze architecture options and prioritize through execution.
  • Design general architecture, including functional and technical architectures, interface / API scoping, non-functional requirements e.g. security and performance.
  • Direct technology upgrades, ensure proper risk analysis and go/no-go study.

Infrastructure Service - Operations

  • Event Management – Monitor services for continuous improvement, categorize and filter events to decide on appropriate actions.
  • Problem Management - Manage the technology lifecycle. Prevent incidents, and minimize impact of incidents that cannot be prevented.  Proactive problem management by analyzing incident records and using data to identify trends of significant problems
  • Crisis Management - Manage crisis life cycle, coordinate stakeholders to resolve, communicate, and evaluate root cause. 
  • Technical Management - Provide technical expertise and support for management of the IT Infrastructure Services

Infrastructure Service – Continuous Improvement

  • Review services on a regular basis, improve service quality where necessary, and identify economical ways of providing services.
  • Evaluate processes on a regular basis, monitor process performance through KPI and dashboards, identify where targeted process metrics are not reached.  Develop audits, maturity assessments, benchmarks to evaluate usage of processes and tools.
  • Define specific initiatives aimed at improving services and processes. Verify if improvement initiatives are proceeding according to plan defined, Introduce corrective measures where necessary.
  • Life cycle management - Implement lifecycle management of central hardware and software solutions. Propose evolution / change / project accordingly. Suggest a life cycle process for non-centralized services (under the sites responsibility), in order to improve our management of those services.

Infrastructure Costs

  • Involvement in contract management, budget management and cost optimization.


Americas Infrastructure Leader (moves from approx. 80% to 45 to 50% after 1 year)

Direct operations, projects, activities, and deliverables for all aspects of Infrastructure in a matrixed management environment. Plan long term.

  • Ensure global alignment with technology direction, initiatives and ongoing support.
  • Prioritize operations and project work and assignments internally, with clients, and across IT organizations.  Coordinate deployment strategies.
  • Define and implement IT strategies, set and enforce departmental policy, develop and manage processes, procedures and tools.
  • Ensure third level incident and problem management support across all Infrastructure teams.
  • Direct and/or participate in regional and global continuous process improvement initiatives; identify improvement opportunities, propose alternatives, evaluate/select alternatives, lead implementations.
  • Development the department’s capital and expense budgets. Develop and present business case and appropriation requests for asset investments. Manage overall spend to meet department and company expectations.
  • Participate in supplier relationship management via ongoing communications, negotiations, contract reviews, and service measurement

AMAS Infrastructure leadership, including:

Distributed Systems

  • Windows Server (“Back Office”) and PC (“Front Office”) technologies.  Ensure Arkema’s Back and Front Office architectural standards (“NEO”) are followed consistently.
  • Develops AMAS roadmap for move to and use of cloud, in close collaboration with Applications Teams.
  • Provide consulting to regional IT teams in Mexico and South America as needed.

Enterprise Systems

  • Underlying SAP software (“Basis”), Hardware/Operating Systems (IBM Power Series/AIX), inter-application data exchanges (FTP) and the Database Administration function (“DBA”). 5 SAP landscapes
  • Ensure effective contributions for SAP application-led projects and other projects requiring Basis, AIX or DBA support.

Network and Operations

  • Data networks technologies (communications equipment and services), operational security technology (firewalls, proxies), and Cyber Security initiatives.
  • Coordinate and communicate network (Inter-site “WAN” and Intra-site “LAN”) design and deployment activities across the Americas, consistent with global standards.
  • Deliver networks and operational security technologies including regional support for the Security Operations Center.

Data Center and Disaster Recovery

  • Ensure relationship with datacenter colocation provider to deliver requisite services with respect to power, environmental protection, physical security, and inter-data center connectivity.
  • Ensure back up of critical Arkema data from the primary location to an alternate.  Safeguard the company’s critical systems and services with focus on continuous operation in the event a disastrous occurrence in the primary regional data center or in a remote site computer room. 
  • Conduct exercises to certify the propriety of the disaster recovery processes.

Security

  • Support development of global cyber security policies and align with regional policy.
  • Minimize cyber vulnerability by ensuring vendor and/or application security assessments.
  • Direct SAP security reviews in conjunction with internal and external auditors.

Voice Services US

  • Direct US voice/video-related services including phone systems, carrier services, mobile phones and video conference rooms.
  • Oversee carrier contract negotiations, service levels, and ongoing billing analysis for cellular, local and long distance services.
  • Ensure service for distribution and support of smart phone technology for US users.
  • Provide deployment and operational support for corporate standard PBXs.


Organization Evolution and Talent Management

  • Participate in global strategy development for target operating model and organization evolution. 
  • Lead organizational change resulting from the evolution of applications, systems, and technology.
  • Optimize for cost and performance, internal and external resource usage.
  • Ensure workforce planning and career development with direct reports and teams via goal setting, performance management, cross training, assignments, formal education, mentoring and mobility. 
  • Communicate departmental information internally and externally.
  • Foster teamwork and professional relationships amongst iTEAM groups in the Americas via group initiatives, management meetings, communications and cross functional assignments
  • Instill and maintain a “client awareness – passion for service” attitude in all team members.


Corporate Initiatives (as assigned)

  • Contribute to leadership and manage the IT impact of acquisitions and divestitures in line with the direction of Arkema business interests.  Includes due diligence activities,
  • Affect the achievement of Arkema’s objectives and values via participating in or directing non-IT company projects, teams, committees, boards, projects, and management and facilitation of non-technical initiatives.


CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Role will require travel to Arkema Americas regional locations and to global iTeam locations (includes minimum of 1 trip per year to Europe). Travel estimated at 10-15% annually.

  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents


REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree required with focus in Information Technology preferred.  Master’s Degree or other related technical certifications a plus.
  • Minimum of 12 years’ overall experience, including applying systems and infrastructure solutions to business needs
  • Minimum 5 years leading Infrastructure organization/team
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience, including large IT, global, and system improvement projects.
  • Broad understanding of technical/ business/ professional aspects of systems/ applications/ tools used
  • Experienced in cloud - SaaS, IaaS, PaaS setup and operations
  • Understanding of evolving digital and related cyber security technologies.
  • Direct experience with developing and implementing regional and global digital transformation initiatives
  • Working knowledge of WAN, LAN, Server OS/DB, PC HW/SW/OS and voice/data communication technologies.
