The Corporate Occupational Safety & Industrial Health Lead reports to the Arkema Corporate Senior Manager, Industrial Safety. and is geographically based at Arkema’s Corporate Offices in King of Prussia, PA OR in the Houston, TX area.

 

Key Activities & Responsibilities

 

  • 10% -Provide oversight, consultation and support regarding general health and safety programs, processes, action plans, best practices, initiatives and regulatory/internal requirements across North America.
  • 15% -Manager overall Corporate Contractor Safety, Selection and Oversite Program. Conduct Corporate Audits of Contractor performance at internal or external Arkema sites. Provide metrics on Contractors Safety Performance as needed to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses and to improve workplace conditions and practices for our contractor. Serve as the primary contact with our third (3) party contractor or service provider vetting service.
  • 15% - Serve as a Primary point of contact of Root Cause Analysis throughout the Americas, Lead (or participate) in monthly or quarterly RCA follow-up reviews with various sites and/or BUs. 
  • 15% -  Lead and manage the overall implementation of Life Critical and Arkema Work Permit Processes (i.e. LOTOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, Elevated Work, Line Breaking, Hydroblasting etc.) in Arkema by providing coaching, site assessment and facilitating meetings/discussions with site representatives and teams.  This also entails establishing planned campaigns, annual targets, data and metrics updates that drive improvement primarily throughout North America.
  • 10% - Develop effective training materials and/or deliver training to the plants on General Health and Safety related matters and/or AIMS.
  • 10% Conduct review, verification, and/or provide corrective action guidance/support of site action plans associated with audit findings and/or incidents.
  • 15% Provide high level field safety support during Turnarounds as needed for high risk capital projects and serve on review teams for Capital Projects and Constructability Reviews
  • 5% - Serve and function as an “Arkema Emergency 2-call phone holder” (on call).
  • Provide direct support and/or leadership to Arkema GO Team for rapid support during significant unplanned events in addition to involvement in REACTs.
  • 5% - Compile and/or develop presentations to Arkema’s Senior Management on Health and Safety activities or initiatives as needed.

 

Context & Environment

 

  • The Occupational Safety Lead will interact with other Corporate HES personnel, lead multidiscipline teams, and interface with plant personnel to ensure Occupational Safety program and policy compliance.
  • Business travel (with potential to include Canada, Mexico, and South America) is estimated to be 30-50% of the time.
  • Support the corporate HES policy and ensure sites comply with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participate in HES activities provided by Arkema Inc. (e.g., Site Housekeeping Audits, Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Support and promote the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

 

Required Education/Qualification/Work Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering or related fields is required.
  • 10-15 years of experience in chemical or related industries at a chemical plant.
  • Prior technical experience with safety and health management processes and program components.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing operations and relevant federal and state regulations, including OSHA H&S Requirements and OSHA PSM.
  • Strong mastery of Behavior Based Safety and Safestart.
  • Strong master of Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
  • Certification and training or experience in Industrial or Emergency Response and/or Fire Fighting
  • Strong computer skills in the use of HES applications and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written), in addition to strong presentation and training facilitation skills.
