Corporate Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Health Specialist Job

The Corporate Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Occupational Health (OH) Specialist reports to the Sr. Manager Industrial Safety and will interact with other Corporate HES personnel, lead multidiscipline teams, and interface with plant personnel to ensure Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety program and policy compliance and that Arkema worker exposures are below established exposure limits.


Key Activities & Responsibilities


  • 10% Participate in the development, implementation and/or review of site Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health Monitoring Programs and Exposure Assessments.
  • 5% Actively participating on, and in some cases leading, regional and global teams for Arkema Health and Safety.
  • 10% Directing consultants, contractors and third party Industrial Hygiene health and safety services in addition to Occupational Medical Services.
  • 5% Participating in Arkema Management Systems (AIMS) and IH or OS audits.
  • 10% Interacting and collaborating with manufacturing facilities or other functional corporate departments for assessing and communicating new OSHA, AIHA, ACGIH, NIOSH or Established Recommended Exposure Limits.
  • 10% Provide direct/indirect support and guidance to  Arkema HES Representatives (i.e. Managers, Specialists and Technicians) within assigned all BU(s) for Industrial and Occupational Exposures and occupational health
  • 10% Identify, evaluate and understand basic technical, regulatory and organizational issues and develop appropriate and cost effective solutions related to industrial hygiene and occupational health
  • 10% Analyze occupational risks, injuries and exposure data for trends and provide comprehensive and understandable summaries and/or training as needed.
  • 15% Manage and oversee the Arkema Inc. Occupational health, safety and IH Risk Assessment and Management System. 
  • 15% Research, Coordinate; provide guidance with established hygiene and medical testing and monitoring protocols for Pandemic (ex. H1 N1, COVID-19) outbreaks affecting Arkema personnel. Coordinate, analyze, classify and organize exposure case data in various regions in North America and communicate to Senior Management on a periodic basis.  Development and Oversight of Arkema hygiene practices and various threat levels (based AIHA, CDC Practices) and ensure that the information is documented and communicated according to internal procedures. Provide Training as needed.


Context & Environment


  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Business travel (with potential to include Canada, Mexico, and South America) is estimated to be 50-60% of the time.


Required Education / Qualifications / Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational or Industrial Safety, Engineering, Science or related technical field is required; Master’s degree is a plus
  • 3+ years of experience in chemical or related industries in a chemical plant environment
  • Prior technical experience with Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health processes and program components.
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing operations and relevant federal and state regulations, including OSHA, ACGIH, AIHA and other established exposure limits and IH Protocols
  • Strong knowledge of Emergency Response activities associated regulatory and training requirements.
  • Strong computer skills in the use of HES applications and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation highly preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is a plus
