Job Title: Sr. IC&A Engineer
Situation in organization:
This position is in the Maintenance & Reliability Department and reports directly to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager
Job dimensions:
The IC&A Engineer will oversee the IC&A maintenance/reliability initiatives and interface with the appropriate maintenance and manufacturing groups to ensure the highest level of safety, productivity, work quality and reliability for all instrumentation, electrical and analyzer maintenance/reliability activities.
Key Activities and responsibilities:
- Oversee troubleshooting, repairs, calibration, and new installation tasks for instrumentation and controls work - 90%
- Drive instrumentation reliability by reviewing recent failures and past history to provide recommendations for improvement
- Analyze bad actors and Top 10’s to drive improvements for instrumentation
- Evaluate and maintain the PM strategies for instrumentation equipment
- Recommend spare parts for reliability-critical equipment
- Develops and implements instrumentation safety and skills training for Maintenance personnel
- Contribute in the ongoing development of instrumentation standards that will maximize reliability, efficiency, design, and minimize required spare parts inventory
- Identify capital projects necessary to maintain and improve the plant instrumentation. Submit project requests to Project Engineering and assist in implementation of the project.
- Lead development of future automation projects through oversight of strategy, design, programming, maintenance, an HMI software/programming
- Install, remove, perform maintenance and design for implementation of control/interlock strategies as well as troubleshoot and correct (hardware and software) problems for DCS, PLC, PI and Process Control Networks communications
- Evaluate the Control Systems PM programs and provide technical support by identifying and presenting alternatives and recommendations.
- Assist IE&A Superintendent and Technicians in troubleshooting instrumentation issues.
- Provide guidance with calculations and design safety instrumented (SIS) systems
- Oversee troubleshooting, repairs, calibration, and new installation tasks for analyzer work– 10%
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Attend meetings (safety, maintenance planning, reliability, and production)
- Monitor IC&A maintenance spend
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis and Incident Investigations
- Perform cost analysis for repair versus replacement of equipment
- Participate in HAZOP hazard analysis
- Ensures that IC&A equipment and spare parts are ordered as needed and validate spare parts are maintained appropriately
- Manage the quality and cost associated with IC&A work performed by outside repair shops
- Publish monthly reports for management pertaining to productivity, equipment repair status, project status, reliability and forecasting
- Provide coverage as needed to support electrical distribution engineer

- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience
- B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years’ engineering experience in IC&A
- Computer skills required
- Knowledge of a broad range of industry standards including NFPA, API, ASME, and ISA standards
- Knowledgeable in all types of industrial instrumentation and process control loop systems
- Basic knowledge of inline process and environmental analyzers and their functions
- Skilled in interpreting electrical diagrams/schematics and loop drawings
- Skilled in Instrument, Controls and Analyzer terminologies and maintenance processes
- Strong experience with industrial computer systems, motor control, PLCs and DCS. Experience with analog and digital signals, wireless instrument networks, HART and industrial ethernet.
Demonstrated Competencies
- Good written and oral communication skills to interface with operations and maintenance personnel
- Ability to follow maintenance procedures for equipment
- Ability to read, understand and utilize equipment drawings and P&ID’s
- Works well in teams
