Maintenance Mechanic Job

Arkema Inc. is actively recruiting for Maintenance Mechanic to support our Houston facility. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and performs tasks of mechanical repair and troubleshooting of equipment, manages work orders via SAP, and collaborates with Engineering/SMEs on field issues and findings. The role is also responsible for ensuring that all AIMS HESQ policies & practices (ISO-9001, ISO-14001, ISO-45001 & RCMS) are followed. This includes compliance with OSHA 1910, environmental regulations and permits, quality systems, and safe work permit practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Safety
- Engages in corporate and site safety policies and initiatives.
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident, or injury incidents.
- Maintains housekeeping at a high level on an increased frequency.
- Thoroughly clean jobsite when work and tasks are completed
Maintenance Tasks
- Performs assignments and task, along with providing job status updates through the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Performs necessary repairs and preventive maintenance of various rotating and fixed equipment (PSV’s, engines, motors, compressors, fans and pumps) including tolerances, run outs utilizing precision tools, report/document equipment findings/conditions & corrective actions, and communicate to Reliability Engineer on findings & repair recommendations.
- Works with flanged, and threaded, piping connections. Along with installing and modifying stainless steel tubing/fittings.
- Completes PM documentation and retention to maintain regulatory requirements.
- Supports SMART initiatives and assists other crafts when allowed, supporting a teamwork environment.
- Coordinates and directs contractor activities during plant outages, managing tasks for contractors with varying skill levels and crafts.
- Collaborates with Operations around preventative measures minimizing downtime and run to failure of rotating equipment.
Technical/System Management
- Maintains supporting knowledge of piping specifications for the Houston Plant.
- Maintains and tracks materials specific to craft for the Houston plant.
- Utilizes craft skill set along with equipment and plant knowledge to review and update old practices to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Participates in equipment failure investigations as a mechanical resource.
- Utilizes plant document control/management tools to perform job duties (Atlas, SharePoint, SAP etc.).
- Understands instructions of a technical nature reflecting the requirements of the job; this includes interpreting pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics and drawings, manuals, and procedures.
Planning
- Assists the maintenance planner with craft specific scope, and materials for planned maintenance jobs.
- Works with Engineering/SME (Subject Matter Expert) on resolution to issues on discovery work in the field, which is subject to; field walks with contractors, researching parts/tools needed for completing tasks.
- Works with contractors and company personnel on planning routine and non-routine projects including plant outages and turnarounds. Assist lab personnel with general lab housekeeping. Includes but not limited to handling and ordering of gas chromatography gases, disposal of retain samples.
Required Education/Qualifications/Work experience
- High School Diploma, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a millwright, welder, pipe fitter and/or related craft functions.
- Previous experience or training in the Petrochemical Industry performing similar work.
- Able to pass an Arkema craft specific assessment.
- Experience in competent repair and overhaul of large centrifugal compressors and multi-stage steam turbines. preferred
- NCCER certification for Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Boilermaker, Millwright, Crane and Rigging. Preferred
- Ability to understand and demonstrate effective repair discipline and methodologies.
- Ability to have a comprehensive understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics, drawings and manuals.
- Self-starting behavior to engage around safety initiatives, problem resolution, and strategic thinking.
- Ability to make repairs with attention to detail to minimize rework and increase productivity and reliability.
- High level of thorough communication, with the ability to facilitate meetings, and work activities as needed.
- Knowledge and capability of computer-based systems to manage work through (Microsoft applications, SAP, Business management software – Atlas)
