Sr. Health & Safety Specialist Job

Responsible to provide guidance to the HES Manager and leadership team to ensure the plant is compliant with all Health and Safety regulations.  Serves as primary backup to the HES Manager and Environmental Engineer.

  • Serves as a site technical resource for health and safety programs; stays informed on current law /regulations and the impact on plant operations (15%)
  • Manages the safety committee and champions Behavior Based Safety program as mentor to site facilitator (15%)
  • Assists with development, implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs (10%)
  • Provides plant projects with health safety review and guidance (e.g., Management of Change, Capital Appropriation Requests, Standard Operating Procedures) (10%)
  • Performs routine documented inspections of safety systems and programs; initiates corrective actions as needed, supports the hazardous waste management program and schedules shipments, provides required information to the Environmental Engineer to meet regulatory and corporate requirements (10%)
  • Manages industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring program. (10%)
  • Manages plant emergency response plan and preparedness of the emergency response team (10%)
  • Maintains medical surveillance program; coordinates annual physicals/respirator fit testing and documentation (10%)
  • Serves as site administrator for IMPACT; leads periodic management reviews of incident investigations and corrective/preventative action status. (10%)
  • Conducts and coordinates incident investigations; leads TapRoot investigations.  
  • Leads and participates in Process Hazard Analysis reviews
  • Conducts site loss control and/or Health and Safety training; creates training presentations as required.

 

Required Education/Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • BS in HES, Industrial Health Management or science related field
  • 7-10 years of experience of Health and Safety in manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of federal health and safety regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in Incident investigation techniques
  • Professional certification preferred (ASP, CSP, CIH)
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office; IMPACT Enterprise software desirable
  • Proven ability to influence safety behavior and mindset in plant team
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
