Research Scientist - Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

 

Situation in organization: This position reports to the Sr. Group Leader

 

Job dimensions: This position leads the development of new acrylic solvent borne and UV curable hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive products. Primary responsibilities include designing and conducting base resin synthesis, formulation development and leading the lab and pilot scale phases of new product development. Additional duties include project management and providing technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Activities:

  • Develop acrylic polymers and formulated adhesives to meet our customer’s coating equipment and performance requirements. 
  • Collaborate with technical service, sales, marketing, manufacturing, quality control, engineering, and purchasing groups.
  • Provide creative and insightful solutions to customer application issues.
  • Develop and present technical information to customers and at industry symposia.
  • Successfully lead the tactical plans for product development projects, including development and pilot scale up within a project management framework.
  • Conduct polymerizations, lab experiments, adhesive performance, and application tests
  • Keep a well-organized and updated laboratory notebook
  • Follow all safety rules, work safely and maintain a safe, 5S laboratory.
  • Up to 20% travel

 Qualifications / experience required

  • Ph. D. in polymer chemistry or organic chemistry
  • Minimum 5 years industrial experience in acrylic polymers, UV chemistry, and/or adhesion science
  • Experience in acrylic PSAs and/or UV crosslinked adhesives is strongly preferred
  • Track record of successful product development and product launches is preferred
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in laboratory handling chemicals and conducting experiments
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
