I&E Technician

Situation in organization

This position is in the Maintenance Department and reports directly to the IE&A Superintendent

Job dimensions

The I&E Technician will interface with the appropriate maintenance and manufacturing resources to diagnose, improve, and resolve instrument and electrical maintenance activities in a safe, responsible and environmentally sound manner. Technician will ensure that instrument and electrical equipment are repaired and maintained for maximum reliability in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

Key Activities and responsibilities

  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs, calibration, and new installation tasks for instrumentation work assigned according to daily/weekly maintenance schedule - 30%

This will include and not limited to:

            Scheduling, planning and performing of routine and non-routine  PM’s

            Troubleshooting, calibrating and repair of flow, temperature, pressure and level instrumentation

            Troubleshooting, programming and repairs of Contact/Non-contact radars

            Troubleshooting and calibration of Control Valves and associated instrumentation            

  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs, switching, isolation, and new installation tasks for electrical work assigned according to daily/weekly maintenance schedule.  - 60%

This will include and not limited to:

            Scheduling, planning and performing of routine and non-routine PM’s

            Communicating with vendors and updating equipment

            Programming and maintenance of VFD’s

            Updating software and hardware on Multilins

            Providing ownership of site electrical equipment

            Creating and updating procedures as needed per site equipment and mfg. recommendations

            Assist with electrical projects and recommendations for improvements

            Troubleshooting, maintaining and repairs of Plant UPS Systems

            Installation of conduit raceways as needed

            Maintain area and unit lighting while driving to lower power consumption

  • Update IE&A Superintendent and IE&A Eng./Lead (as needed) with job status and submit repair reports and documentation to meet ISO requirements. - 10%

Context and environment

The duties of this position are conducted with the following considerations:

  • Follow and adhere to the maintenance work process and repair procedures
  • Must adhere to the Arkema Electrical Safe Work Practices Policy and Guidelines for the CLO site
  • Must be available to work extended hours , weekends, holidays and after hour call outs
  • Perform elevated work on scaffolding and aerial lifts (JLG, scissor lifts)
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Understands and Supports the Clear Lake Facility Acrylic Monomers HSE2Q Commitment

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • High school diploma with minimum 5 years field maintenance experience with electrical and instrumentation.
  • Instrument or Electrical Technical degree/ Certification preferred
  • Computer skills is a plus
  • Knowledgeable in the use of hand and power tools related to electrical & instrumentation work
  • Knowledgeable in motor control systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Adjustable Speed Drives construction, operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance
  • Advanced knowledge of Multilin 369 Motor Protective Relays
  • Skilled in interpreting electrical diagrams/schematics
  • Skilled in utilizing electrical and instrumentation diagnostic equipment
  • Skilled in motor terminology and maintenance procedures
  • Knowledgeable in dry type transformer construction, troubleshooting, and wiring
  • Knowledgeable in locating and isolating 480V ground faults on systems using ground fault location equipment
  • Knowledgeable in plant equipment grounding systems construction, testing, and maintenance
  • Knowledgeable in UPS functions, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance
  • Knowledgeable in troubleshooting of electrical control circuitry and distribution equipment

Demonstrated Competencies (Describe behaviors necessary for role)

  • Good written and oral communication skills to interface with operations and maintenance personnel
  • Ability to follow maintenance procedures for equipment
  • Ability to read, understand and utilize equipment drawings and P&ID's
  • Works well in teams
