Job Title: Research Chemist

 

SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION

This position reports directly to the Technical Service Manager.

 

JOB DIMENSIONS

  • Provide innovative solutions with new products or formulation of existing products for unmet customer’s needs
  • Supports development and commercialization of new products.
  • Supports identification of new technologies relevant to business needs and customer specific programs.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the hands-on development of new technologies and product concepts that provide differentiated performance in the marketplace (40%)
  • Develop screening formulations and testing plans to evaluate prototype performance
  • Apply Design of Experiment techniques to test prototypes with minimal supervision.
  • Conducts data analysis and explain outcomes within work group and to internal and external customers with guidance. Make effective presentations within project teams and work groups. (40%)
  • Develops new project ideas and submit them to management for consideration (10%)
  • Provide technical support for non-conformances, customer claims, and management of out-of-spec batches and SPC analysis. (10%)

 

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Develops technical expertise within defined role ; monitors technical literature to develop strong understanding of relevant external technologies.
  • Works closely with peer group to ensure development and propagation of best practices and functional excellence.
  • Possible business travel
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields with 5+ years of relevant industrial experience, or MS Degree with 3+ years of related technical experience.

 

DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES

  • Good understanding of polymer chemistry, formulation science and applications.
  • Ability to perform laboratory experiments independently in a safe, precise, and timely manner.
  • Analytical interpretation and presentation of scientific data.
  • Verbal and written communication of technical information.
  • Solve technical problems of moderate complexity with guidance.
