SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION

This position reports directly to the Plant Engineer. This position has no direct reports.

 

JOB DIMENSIONS

Perform maintenance and repair work required to keep process machinery, equipment and the structures of the facility in good repair and operating properly. Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

Technical & Routine Workload 40-80%:

  • Monitor and maintain plant equipment to ensure plant safety.
  • Utilize Safe Work Permitting practices for all applicable actions. 
  • Perform electrical maintenance to plant equipment, including disconnecting and reconnecting of plant equipment.
  • Operate utility equipment, checking boiler water and chemical levels, and feed water systems daily, conductivity and low level alarms checks to and troubleshoot problems.
  • Repair and modify plant process equipment to ensure optimal production, including instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
  • Perform various maintenance skills such as: Pipefitting, Machining, Welding, Insulating, Grounds maintenance, Carpentry, electrical, and masonry work.
  • Perform scheduled Preventive Maintenance on equipment as required by manufacturers’ recommendation or by plant’s SOPs

 

Planning & Reporting Workload 20-40%:

  • Maintain spare parts inventory to ensure plant reliability.
  • Make recommendations for purchase of parts and supplies, including piping, tools.
  • Utilize SAP for corrective and preventive work order tracking.
  • Keep accurate maintenance logs/records for daily boiler, cooling tower, chiller, and compressor inspections, and other necessary preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain continuity by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs to management and peers.

Safety & Other Assigned duties 10-20%:

  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by Plant Management
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

 

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

  • This position works a 5/8 shift schedule. Typically Monday through Friday.
  • This position may periodically require overtime or a modified schedule to ensure that production needs are met.
  • Work is primarily performed outside during all seasons.
  • No travel is required.
  • This position requires ability to lift 55 pounds regularly, hoisting and frequent walking and climbing stairs and ladders. 
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g. respirators and chemical resistant clothing, hard hats, safety eyewear, etc.) that may be required at times will increase the level of physical stress experienced by workers.
  • Understand the hazards and risks associated with maintenance and repair activities in a chemical manufacturing facility. 
  • Retain knowledge of basic chemistry and chemical hazards and apply this knowledge in daily work activities.
  • Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks, considering safety and environmental concerns
  • Safely wear and/or use required personal protective equipment.
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of mechanical maintenance work in a chemical processing facility. 
  • Basic computer literacy, including email and data entry is required.  SAP competence preferred.
  • Ability to operate a forklift is required.
