Formulation Chemist - COATEX, INC. Job

This position reports directly to the NAFTA Technical Center Manager. This position has no direct reports.



Carry out application research and formulation studies to develop new or to improve existing products, processes, and techniques.



  • 50% - Perform laboratory experiments as requested by his/her direct supervisor.  This must be completed on schedule but the candidate must manage his/her own time.
  • 30% - Compile, interpret, and analyze data. Prepare technical reports and present conclusions.
  • 5% - Follow and execute appropriate laboratory tests to validate product quality.
  • 3% - Check and maintain lab equipment for conformity, including metrological follow-up and preventative maintenance.
  • 3% - Ensure lab QHSE procedures are properly followed.  Observe and report any problems or failures. 
  • 3% - Participate in safety trainings and programs.
  • 3% - Ensure that the lab remains in state of cleanliness that complies with its usage.
  • 3% - Understand plant environmental health and safety regulations and comply with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.



  • Handling Hazardous chemicals with appropriate protective equipment.
  • Possible business travel
  • The position will periodically require overtime to meet production schedules.
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g. respirators and chemical resistant clothing, hard hats, safety eyewear, etc.) that may be required at times will increase the level of physical stress experienced by workers.
  • Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks, considering safety and environmental concerns
  • Safely wear and/or use required personal protective equipment.
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.



  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields.
  • 3+ years in a product development role with waterborne formulations is preferred.
  • 5+ years of industry experience with polymers is preferred.
  • Ability to travel (~10%)
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint



Technical skills:

  • Good understanding of polymer chemistry and applications.
  • Ability to perform laboratory experiments in a safe, precise, and timely manner.
  • Analytical interpretation and presentation of scientific data.
  • Verbal and written communication of technical information. 
  • Solve technical problems.
  • Maintain training required to ship hazardous and dangerous good internationally and domestically.
