The Lab Chemist 1 conducts all testing required to ensure that raw materials received and finished products produced are in compliance with acceptable specifications and notify the Quality Supervisor/ISO Coordinator of any issues.  Sartomer is a manufacturer of UV curable coatings and adhesives and is developing a portfolio of products in the 3D inks space.  Production of our chemicals is a 24/7 operation which may may require the lab chemist to work night and/or weekend shifts depending on schedule assigned assigned.  

Key Activities and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Laboratory Operations (85%)

  1. Approve raw materials and input results, when necessary.
  2. Independently perform analytical testing on finished goods and input results into LIMS.
  3. Data entry into SAP, when necessary.
  4. Independently perform preventative maintenance and repairs on lab instrumentation.
  5. Re-approve finished goods and materials to extend the expiration date.
  6. Validate calibration status of test methods by running SQC samples.
  7. Validate weekly and monthly calibration status of analytical instrumentation.
  8. Preparation of lab solutions and standards.
  9. Work with production operators, as needed to troubleshoot lab problems.
  10. Monitor laboratory consumables.
  11. Troubleshooting instrumentation, including phone assistance with vendors as needed (associated with preventative maintenance and repairs on Lab instrumentation)

 

Operational Excellence and HES Activities (15%)

  1. Assist Quality Supervisor/ISO Coordinator with special projects and quality investigations.
  2. Participate in plant Behavior Based Safety program.
  3. Generate and implement continuous improvement ideas based on outcomes of troubleshooting or quality pillar initiatives.
  4. Business Unit knowledge; continually seeks to understand the processes in production, warehouse, maintenance and HES.  Understands the role of quality in relation to all the other departments; working with a sense of urgency to provide support in a timely manner. 

 

Context and environment

  • Manufacturing environment with chemical, physical, ergonomic, and electrical hazards.  Work includes a variety of physical and biological conditions including, but not limited to, moving mechanical parts, working with sharp tools, and exposure to chemical hazards. 
  • Work is primarily performed in the laboratory; worker is exposed to some outside environmental conditions.
  • Work requires use of protective clothing and equipment, which may include, but not be limited to, eye protection, head protection, respiratory protection, and foot protection. 
  • Noise level in the work environment is below the OSHA permissible exposure limits.
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds (handling waste drums, gas cylinders, laboratory supplies)
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods with occasional walking and sitting.

 

 

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • BS degree in Chemistry or equivalent field of study.
  • Laboratory experiences required (minimum of 3 years analytical laboratory experience preferred).
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Software.
