We are seeking a Staff Technical Service Engineer to join the Coating Resins business, based in Cary, NC. This position is focused on Application areas in Building and Construction - Caulks/ Sealants, Elastomeric Coatings, Adhesives etc. The incumbent will be responsible for connecting customers to innovative solutions through formulating existing products and developing new product offerings. Responsible for developing and commercializing new products as well as identifying new technologies relevant to business needs and supporting customer specific programs. The incumbent will work closely with ACR customers and R&D synthesis, process scientist and engineers in the development and commercialization of new products. 

 

Up to 40% travel required.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

Development/Commercialization of New Products:

  • Responsible for the development and commercialization of new technologies and product concepts that provide differentiated performance in the marketplace. 
  • Seeks to implement innovative solutions to problems and generate technical tools through formulations development, customer/industry understanding, and project leadership.
  • Direct project teams in the execution of project plans.
  • Ensure formulation, execution, documentation and reporting of high quality experimental designs.
  • Work with Synthesis and Process implementation teams to ensure alignment and delivery of technical goals, strategies and coordination of appropriate resources across the cross-functional team.
  • Monitors technical literature to develop strong understanding of relevant external technologies and leverage to internal needs.
  • Fosters an interdependent safety culture in all activities. Ensures safe operations in all activities.
  • Development of project plans, technical approaches, timelines, deliverables and IP strategy for assigned projects.
  • Ensures high level of technical excellence through sound use of scientific principles, critical thought, creative problem solving, analytical thinking, open and honest communication of best practices.
  • Supports stage-gate process through project management, tracking and reporting practices.

 

Customer Interactions:

  • Key technical link between our customers and R&D.
  • Seen as the technical face for ACR at our customers.
  • Prepare timely project updates, presentations, and reports to peers and business stakeholders. Ensures completion of formal reports upon completion of projects.
  • Documents experimental work and ensures the timely filing of invention disclosures and patent applications.
  • Provides regular updates of individual projects through monthly reviews, technical reviews, stage-gate reviews. Reports progress to management versus goals.
  • Supports business strategies at key customers through participation in customer interfaces.
  • Liaises with global teams to understand regional customer needs and provide solutions.
  • Identify and establish opportunities for technical exchange and collaboration between internal and external groups to enhance capabilities and knowledge. Maintains a strong technical network. 
  • Translates business goals to identify potential projects. Develops and refines project ideas and submits them to management for consideration. 
  • Earn the role of subject matter expert within business and wider corporation. Influences project team colleagues (R&D, Business) and internal and/or external customers. 
  • Mentors peers and junior technical personnel. 

 

Required Education/Qualifications/Work Experience: 

  • BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science/Engineering, Material Science or related technical field with 10+ years of industrial experience, or MS degree with 5+ years of industrial experience. 
  • Experience in formulation and applications development preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a customers' laboratory is preferred. 

 

HES Requirement: 

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements. 
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.

 

Demonstrated Competencies: 

  • Demonstrated track record of technical success, technical knowledge and publications.
  • Understanding of the coatings industry.
  • Business acumen
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in computer applications including SAP; Lotus Notes; Microsoft Office; Excel; MS Project and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to resolve issues in a collaborative manner for the overall satisfaction of key stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
  • Strong communication and goal alignment skills between other functional areas.
