Staff Process Engineer


The Plant Process Engineer reports directly to the Kynar Operations Manager.  Peers include production supervisors, engineers, maintenance, lab, safety, and environmental personnel.  Support all facets of production through involvement in process, reliability improvement projects, quality improvement projects and safety related projects.  Track yields, OAU, and operating conditions always looking for process improvements to reduce RPE and Variable costs.  Provide support to process supervisors as required including periodic substitute for absences.  Act as a process contact and support for capital



Key Activities


Coordinate activities on minor capital projects working with project managers and department supervisors to implement the projects in a timely and safe manner and within the project budget and scope.

· Assist in the implementation of major capital projects.  Provide technical support through the gate process, during pre-construction phase, and coordinate daily activities with the production area and project management and contractors.

· Identify and recommend process improvement projects to the department manager and area supervisors.  If projects are to be expensed, track all costs and work performed.  Otherwise, initiate project requests to the engineering department and work alongside them to complete the project.

· Provide technical support to the process areas as required on a daily basis.  Supervise production areas as required to fill vacations and other absences.

· Initiate MOC’s, maintain area work instructions,  process safety information, JSA’s and develop new work instructions/procedures as required.

· Assist with plant product trials.  Assist production supervisors and corporate technical personnel in the scheduling and implementation of product trials.


Context & Environment


This position requires interaction with department supervisors and hourly employees as well as the engineering and maintenance departments.  Primary focus is on technical support to maintain daily operations, improve operating efficiency, reduce operating costs, and project implementation within the department. The incumbent must comply with the applicable regulatory requirements of OSHA 29CFR, DOT 49CFR, and EPA 40CFR


Education/Qualifications/Work Experience


This position requires at minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with a preference for manufacturing experience in a chemical plant or industry. Demonstrated ability in chemical engineering principles is required as well as computer and technical writing skills.
